A little nugget of encouragement for this mid-week: nothing is wrong with you for trying out career paths and deciding they're not for you.

I'm 36 and I've had, like, four different career paths so far. I've learned along the way what I'm good at, what I suck at, and what my personal redlines are for walking away.

The trick is to find the throughline. Mine is connection and creativity. What's yours?

Thinking back to how someone said to my then boss, now dear friend, that I was "utterly irrelevant" and "who even was I" before I got started at GD.biz.

It's been four years since then and that has served as delicious fuel for my "fuck you, I'll show you" fire. Who I was back then (or even now) isn't as important as what I've done since.

Despite how much that last job hurt and wrecked me, I'm out here thriving and that's what matters.

One of the things that I've learned this year is that social media connections are far more transient than I originally thought of them.

Like, when I started on Twitter in 2007, things were way different. I built two careers there! I'll always treasure that.

But so many people coming into social media as young adults view it all as completely transactional. "Let me get close to this person as long as they'll do stuff for me" is SO WEIRD to me.

Anyway, Mastodon is nice. Let's be friends.
