Fun fact: I paid for a 5-year ID card, but it's actually good for 5 years and 11 months! (ID cards & drivers licences always expire on your next birthday, and mine is in February.) I'd been meaning to get down to a registry agent since before my birthday, but procrastination paid off this time!
(Seeing 2031 on a document is kind of break-my-brain distant future date, though.)

(I don't drive & had let mine expire for a few years; it looks like they've been using this design since 2018!)
Favourite touch: how the tail of the Albertosaurus from the front of the card passes through the clear Alberta-shaped window with your duplicate photo, to continue on the back.
I even like my photo. I nailed the "pleasant but not smiling" look.

PS, The measles exposure alerts for Alberta this past 2 week, both for the Fort Vermillion / Little Red River Cree Nation cases, and for the Airdrie (Calgary area) cases:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/measles-airdrie-superstore-1.7484801
The article does emphasize how serious measles is, but doesn't clearly state what kind of symptoms you should be monitoring for, or that you are highly infectious even before a rash develops.
I'd also love if news could emphasize mask use, at least by those who have respiratory symptoms.

If you were somewhere — grocery store, airplane, medical waiting room — mentioned in a news report about measles exposure, it's not enough to look out for a scary spotty rash. Any flu-like illness that develops, up to 3 weeks later, is serious, especially if you're not certain you had a measles vax booster.

The only thing I knew about measles was that it caused a spotty rash. I assumed it was like chickenpox & the rash was the infectious part.
But measles is a respiratory virus. Initial symptoms are like flu, or covid. The rash (& sometimes worse) shows up later.
And measles is so infectious in the flu-like stage, public health never denied it was airborne.

I've been debating what to say to post with this comic, but it's all either just repeating the joke or explaining the joke. Except, it's not even a joke. It's just facts, presented in a humorous manner. Anyway, if you are not a molecular biology nerd & you would like an explanation, let me know in how much detail.

Telus Rewards points will be replaced by new points where one old point (worth $1 towards purchase of gift cards or similar) becomes 1000 new points (worth 0.1¢ each):
One of the key changes is that your points will now be worth even more: each 1 point you’ve earned will now be equivalent to 1,000 points in the new system.
Wow, just think of how many points you'll have after the change! Thousands and thousands of them! So many points! So exciting! 🙄

However, these are apparently getting sold in their entirety as war memorabilia, not melted for scrap. I can't quite see that happening with the foot-less Emily Murphy statue (see previous post in thread).

But it must be hard to tell when there is a water main break when there are puddles and melt flow everywhere anyway.
I'm now wondering how long until our street gets completely torn up to replace the waterworks. I'm pretty sure it was all re-done in 2010, so this seems a little early for this much failure.
7.3.2025 18:45Now, most of the other storm drains in the area have been draining fine, so I don't think the answer is as simple as a water main break...Turns out someone had come to assess it last Thursday, and they'd done a pressure blast of the drain last Friday. OK, well that didn't work, clearly. With all the melt happening, it must have re-filled within a few hours!
Anyway, another team came out to check the area this morning. And then we were all informed that tap water is going to be cut off today because there's a water main break.
So, maybe it wasn't all melt water.
(This is about a block from the water main break from last month.)

Two days later I got a follow-up customer satisfaction survey phone call. I gave good marks on friendliness & such, but couldn't credit them for fixing the problem because I went out & checked that the giant puddle was still there.
It got bigger all weekend & didn't disappear with cooler weather, so I finally called them back yesterday...
