Do design systems stifle creativity? Kinda.

If the extent of your creativity is dicking about with the border radius of a button, or user-testing tooltips *just one more time* to check if they’re still dogshit (they are) prepare to be stifled.

If you’re interested in solving unsolved problems like, for example, accommodating the full breadth of messy, human complexity in your digital services, you’re golden. Design systems are your friend. And so am I.

So I guess I missed mental health awareness month but it’s recent enough that I can still do my annual rant on why “it’s ok not to be ok” can get in the sea.

Being “not ok” mustn’t be stigmatised obvs, but we need to go so far beyond just making it socially acceptable.

How about instead we focus on drastically improving mental health services on this godforsaken island so that people who are struggling can access proper, humane, dignified support when they need it?
