Work for an hour or so, insulate for 30 mins, rinse and repeat.

This stuff is itchy and scratchy... So I change into clothes to do the insulation, then change out, scrub down my arms, face & hands (because the gloves make my hands sweaty and sticky).

But I am at least 60% done, 4 sections on one wall and 2 sections on the bedroom wall left to do. Then once the electrician has been in tomorrow to move the ceiling light on the landing back to it's original position, and put in the wiring for 2 down lights on the stair bulkhead we built at the weekend... I'll insulate that space with either acoustic (if there's enough left over) or regular 150mm loft insulation.

As there is no longer a radiator on the landing upstairs (not worth having a small one again as the space has been reduced by 1/3), the bulkhead, not only reduces the amount of space that needs to be heated, but funnels rising heat up the stairs onto the small landing area. With the extra insulation I put in the loft at the start of winter last year... It should help keep the area warmer, especially as the area around the front door will be a cold spot (hence insulating the floor directly above it before the new floor went down).

I'll be finished with this later today... Have to squeeze in some work too. 🤔 😆

Insulation was delivered a little while ago... So I'll be doing that this afternoon/evening... had to wrap up in long sleeved clothing and gloves, as this acoustic stuff is more fibrous and itchy than the normal insulation I'm used to.

Got most of one corner done, another 2 slabs left in the pack, enough to finish the 2 walls around the toilet area.

100mm stud walls, 75mm acoustic insulation in them. Surprisingly enough, it's not just the insulation that deadens the sound, it's the 25mm air gap too. Air is a decent acoustic insulator when sandwich between other materials.

I'm a firm believer in increasing the efficiency of a home. Whilst I'm not going to rip up floors tear down plasterboard on all the walls to insulate... if I have to open one up, or redo anything. Adding insulation is a simple and not that expensive option. To do the whole of the bathroom with expensive acoustic insulation is about £190. If you just used regular insulation for warmth instead of warmth+sound reduction, you could do it for a quarter of the price.

Stopped for a break at the moment, wrapped up in several heavy layers and gloves whilst the sun streams through the windows, makes for very hot working conditions... A break and a drink sounds good right now. I need to get this done by Sunday, so there's not a massive rush to finish it today.

It's actually the first thing I've eaten all day... ran out of crumpets for my breakfast and was debating if I should have some lunch before shopping for food... or risk the hunger driving my purchases... hunger purchasing won. 🤔 😆

I will at least have a proper dinner this evening... some of the lamb casserole I made on Sunday, topped with crispy sliced potatoes.

Waiting on the acoustic insulation to be delivered tomorrow, then I am finished until the plastering has been done and I can paint the ceiling and top half of some walls before tiling.

Sometimes I really hate shopping for stuff.

I'm trying to order the units for the ensuite bathroom, and the website doesn't have exact dimensions for some items listed... I later find them in the catalogue.

They have 2 ranges of modular units that will work in the space. One with no handles and one that requires extra handles purchasing.

They're exactly the same units, the only difference is in the doors... one set has a recess at the top (J type doors) and the others are flat. Both the same gloss finish.

The price difference however is massive.

Buying the J type door range would be £1112, buying the smooth ones £877.

I can buy my own handles and match them with the built in cupboard the joiner is going to do for about £30

The saving is still £205.

I know what I'm buying now.

Went out at lunchtime, ended up going to a little town, and found a cafe on the seafront with views across to Puffin island, Pen Mon...

Went out at lunchtime, ended up going to a little town, and found a cafe on the seafront with views across to Puffin island, Pen Mon lighthouse, it was very hazy though, so you normally would have been able to see the Great Orme too, but like the mountains, was completely hazed out.

Cafe was cheap and basic, but the food was above avg for the price.

But being able to sit at the window, looking across a perfectly calm sea, whilst noshing on a bacon cheeseburger and dipping chips in ketchup... is strangely relaxing.

Plasterer just popped round, it's handy that he's fairly local and the nephew of the neighbour across the road... It's handy...

He's told me what to order, and is coming on the 31st March to start... 2 or 3 days to do the bathroom in moisture board and the bedroom, landing & stairs with regular board. A few days for the skim coat to dry properly and the tiler can start... Fingers crossed, tiling will start in 2 weeks and take a few days at least. 2nd fix the week after for plumbing and electrics.

Looking at being finished with the ensuite by 3rd week of April... bedroom decor by the end of April.

Tiles around the window will have to wait until the new window is fitted... which is in about 3-4 weeks.

Feels like progress though
