What's the best set up to run/host Foundry VTT? I'm on Forge, not liking it and I wanna try something else.

If i self host, i'm gonna need something like playit.gg, or I might do a VPS or Molten.

I therefore said: "so we shouldn't name our wagon Icarus, Prometheus, Enterprise, or Canterberry?"

I got many glares.

After some mentions of shooting my character, I offered up Voyager. Nothing is so tough as an Intrepid class.

I have extracted tears from my players and am continuing to do so.

At our last session, one player was a bit too taken with tears to finish. Another had to fight through the crying to get his dialogue out.

And now in the aftermath, as the details settle, closure over the events of the most recent session continues to provide tears.

This is a small item of pride for me. That I can get my players emotionally invested and reacting to the story like this.

Likewise, this last week, I had my players surprised by a polar bear in the snow. I was gonna have them run from it, find clever ways to fight it. They had speak with animals. I made a big overly hammy deal that my plans were foiled.

The bear wanted soup.. made from a nasty yak that was insulting him.

I'm going to build stuff into my adventures I think, sparingly, to be the DMs "screw up". Let the players think like they've really gotten ahead and outsmarted me.

I have been on a small quest to read as MANY books about being a better DM as I can. I've read a fair chunk of the Kobold Guides, How to Write Adventure Modules that Don't Suck, and a fair few others. I've run I think close to 50 games in the last year, my first year of DnD at all.

Out of all of that, @slyflourish's Forge of Foes has had the biggest impact on my players. I've always focused on the narrative and not been great at combat. The tables have turned!

These rods are extremely dangerous. Staying in the presence will cause the heroes to take 2d8 radiant damage per minute within 30'. So they'll want to be fast.

The other paths from the caravan lead to more bodies who'd fled the scene, but not fast enough.

Those poisoned downstream can be healed by a cleric to make a full recovery.
