It's funny, but I can think of another thing that's like that: used #nuclear fuel. Just wait a few hundred years, and it doesn't emit more than a granite slab anymore.

(That's in contrast to all other toxic materials that we routinely dispose of, which never decay, and which are produced in much bigger volumes.)

Ich wäre ja höchst amüsiert, wenn #geheimVZ nach ein paar Tagen mit dem Hinweis geschlossen wird, daß so Twitter, Facebook, BlueSky, und WhatsApp groß geworden sind, und gerade das die Falle ist, in die wieder einmal alle reingetappt sind.

I mean, yes, there are economies whose emission trajectory can be completely explained by the outsourcing of carbon intensive industry, and little by its feeble attempts at actual decarbonization, e. g. Germany.

But this effect can only explain the marginal reduction of that outsourcing, not the dramatic reduction to <50 or even <20 g CO₂ eq/kWh, which is caused by the switch to actual carbon-free sources.

The question is why it's still being brought up.

161 GWh wären im Übrigen auch nur ein Tropfen auf den heißen Stein; die Strommengen im Landesmaßstab werden in TWh gemessen.

Aber wo wir gerade bei was-wäre-wenn sind: hätten wir, den Ausbau von Sonne und Wind unbenommen, die Kernkraftwerke einfach /nicht/ abgeschaltet, sondern stattdessen Kohle, Gas und Öl, dann wären wir heute bei ca. 100 g CO₂/kWh, statt wie aktuell über 400.
