Like, what would a red dwarf phoenix be like? What'd differeniate them from sun-like firebirds and can I make a cool character out of that? What about protostars - literal phoenixes in the making?

And what the fuck would a pulsar phoenix even look like? That one would have to be a *fucked* up little bird gremlin and I love that

What do you mean there is a *third* screw hidden in this single square centimeter of plastic any why is its head tinier than even the smallest iFixit slot bit that I own?!

(I was successful though. Only took me an hour when my optician could have probably done it in half that time 🙃)

Wrote a little short story for myself featuring my starbird phoenix lore and a bit (ah who am I kidding, a *lot*) of daydreaming. Enjoy I guess?

The old trees branches creak a little as the phoenix settles in for its evening roost. As it fold up its imposing wings, it takes note of its surroundings: fields and forests as far as its starry eyes can see, interrupted only by ruins. Barely recognizable buildings are scattered all over, constructed by a bygone civilization, long forgotten. What the builders were like or why they are gone, the firebird does not know, nor care. That is not why it took on the long journey across the stars to reach this world.

The phoenix turns its head, eyes focused on a small herd of cervine-like creatures in the distance. Animals of all kinds roam the plains in the fading light of this systems suns, grazing between the ruins as if they aren't even there. It can't help but be a little surprised - so many different critters are a rare sight, especially on such a young planet. What an odd but a pleasant surprise this world has been.

For many moons now the firebird has studied every creature it encountered. From the smallest insectoid to the largest land predators, it memorized their shapes, their behavior, their calls. It even made friends with one of the more intelligent animals - at least until its radiant appearance scared away the creatures prey by mistake. Yet, even after catalouging thousands of species, every new one was unique in its own little ways, never quite the same as another. That is what it was here for, to remember and to document. To ensure that this little oasis of life would not be lost to time.

Its work was almost done now, just a few more cycles would be sufficient to fill in the gaps. As Its eyes glance over a ruin, it can't help but wonder: What did the builders think of their world? Did they ever appreciate their surroundings, just teeming with life? Did they even notice? Or were they too occupied building their walls of stone and concrete, never even looking outside? Perhaps their collapse is what allowed this world to thrive in the first place? It knows there will never be answers to these questions, for they - just like the builders - have been lost to time,.

As the two suns finally disappear beyond the horizon, the phoenix turns its head towards the starry sky above. Soon it would be back with its bretheren, a shooting star amidst the cosmic filamets. Its own star is barely visible, just a faint orange speck of light, countless lightyears away. It knows that this systems phoenix is out there somewhere, but whether they will ever meet, who knows. Space is impossibly vast, and a meeting between two phoenixes thus incredible rare. But with enough time, it will happen. And when that day comes, the beauty of this little planet will start to propagate across the cosmos, never to be forgotten.

So turns out its a Windows 11 24H2 thing and everything works perfectly if I *disable the task bar on my secondary monitors*.

So somehow variable refresh rate/FreeSync is no longer working for me for borderless games? It worked perfectly until a few days ago and now...

So somehow variable refresh rate/FreeSync is no longer working for me for borderless games? It worked perfectly until a few days ago and now it just refuses to comply. I can see from my monitor overlay that it works fine for fullscreen games, but as soon as I switch to bordlerless the refresh rate stays at a fixed 144 and the games become choppy during frame drops.

This is on Windows 11 with a FreeSync Monitor, Nvidia 4070ti Super and the most recent driver. G-Sync Compatible is enabled for both fullscreen and windowed and all the windows 11 optimizations are on...

I'm used to shit breaking randomly on Linux, I thought i was safe from that on Windows. Guess not.

Why is it so impossible to find resources on how to fix Windows' bootloader?!

I just restored a Windows install from a dd backup (OS Partition + EFI) and now Windows doesn't boot because of an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error.
Okay, simple enough, probably just need to re-run the Bootloader configuration so that it can pick up the disk again. Maybe the partition UUID got changed or something.

But just trying to find info on that is almost impossible. Half the posts are blogspam and the other half are talking about MBR systems like its 2005. Not even Microsoft has any good docs on this! All I need is the equivalent of "grub-install"...

Surely there's gotta be a way to do this with Windows' recovery tools, right? Some combination of bcdedit and bootrec? There's no way I need to use some third-party freemium proprietary software for this, right?
