I was dreading the return process. But I have to have it to Dreame, it was a super easy process.
They asked for some video evidence (which seems fair enough), and a few days later directed me to a portal to log my RMA.
Some enterprises benefits could learn a thing or two about this process.

If you have a mechanism (executive orders) that gives 1 person (the president) the ability to make unilateral decisions on what is going to happen, you are in fact not a democracy.

It’s actually quite surprising it’s taken this long for it to be abused the way it is now.

And yes I know they are technically not laws, but they may as well be. Everyone complies with them because they are afraid of any consequences if they don’t.

Not sure why I suddenly realised this as it seems quite obvious🧐
I don’t think any other western countries have any thing similar.

Let’s try and bring some good news.
Today was my first day back in the office after 5 weeks of leave. I had a parcel waiting for me that was sent from the other side of the country. I have no idea who sent it. All I know is they work for the same company as me, and I have likely never met them.
The more said they wanted to give something to the person who have given them so much.
The parcel had these lovely oven mitts and apron in them.

There are still really nice and wholesome people in this world.
I don’t think I can express how it makes me feel to have gotten these.

And it was not just a single toilet either. There were several cubicles for people to use.
I think this is the first time I’ve see this anywhere, well done 😍

Most of the people we had to deal with were really friendly as well.
Was absolutely worth visiting.
I do recommend a doing a tour, I was very happy I did. It would have been really overwhelming otherwise.

Highlights of my trip are the Giza plateau (pyramids and sphinx) and the tombs in the Valley of the Kings (it’s unbelievable how well colours have been preserved).
(Added a picture of Abu Simbel and Kom Ombo as well for good measure).

Got quite an involved scam call yesterday from someone pretending to be from Ledger (I bought a Ledger many years ago out of curiosity, and put a a small amount of crypto on it).
Started with a call saying they detected some malicious activity from some ip in Canada, this person just asked basic questions about this activity, e.g. OSs used, times it happened, if I knew people in Canada, … the call finished by them “checking with the security team” if all that indicated a potential compromise. Of course it did and the security team would call me back in the next 20 minutes.

10-15 minutes later get a second call from the “security team”. They follow standard call procedures e.g. call will be recorded, will I never ask for your password … . Then they start the process saying someone used my id documents to apply for Ledger Restore (so service Ledger is offering these days). Asked me if my id is safe (to which I honestly responded no it’s been in many days breaches), when I last used my Ledger (averted honestly and said 3 or 4 years ago), then they go into why it’s important to keep my device updated and that someone could have grabbed some form of fingerprint of my device years ago and kept it for use later (mind you don’t believe the fingerprint function Ledger Restore relies on was available in the firmware at that time). Eventually they come to the scam part, asking me to go to some URL and plug in my Ledger to “check if it’s compromised”. If it is I’ll get a voucher for a free new device 😉
I had no intention of ever going to the website, but I played along and said my browser said the website was malicious. Then tried to get me to use another browser, out my phone, which I refused.
Then I point blank asked how I could confirm they weren’t scammers, he said he’d send me an email verification from the Ledger domain. I replied that doesn’t prove much, there are many ways to get an email to me from the Ledger domain, like opening a ticket or sending a contact request, but was happy for them to proceed (I didn’t provide my email address, they sheet had it).
Lo and behold I get an email from Ledger confirm my contact request (think it was a GDPR data request). When I pointed this out I’d when they finally gave up.

All in all spent about 15 minutes on the phone. What a ride it was, dropped hints I knew it was a scam multiple times, but they continued unfazed.

I had a blast running sessions for our staff for cyber security awareness month. It was great to have been given the opportunity and trust to run these.
Some of the highlights

🙈 Live face swapping the CEOs face onto mine and having us side by side in the meeting.
🙊 80% of people picking a deepfake audio over the real one (both recordings were saying the same thing)
😊 The huge amount of positive comments I got about how engaging the presentations were
🦄 Asking my boss (and some other guests) if he'd rather fight a duck sized unicorn or 100 unicorn sized ducks in a panel
😍 Having a staff member off to make me earrings because they enjoyed my sessions. (I absolutely love them, you can see them in the photo)

Part 6 of this article by Julia Serano seemed so strange to me when I first read it. But it keeps happening to me.
Total strangers seem to only see the male attributes and totally overlook the other cues.
Just yesterday ordering fastfood, in a dress, with unmistakably having boobs, lipstick, eye shadow, nail polish and shoulder length purple and blond hair, still get called a sir. I can only assume this was because by that time of the day I had a visible stubble (can’t wait for electrolysis to get rid of it all)
It baffles me people just overlook all of those things. Sure most of those can and are also used by men, but overwhelmingly they are associated with woman.

It was surprisingly easy and quick to move my account.
There were only 3 things I wished I was able to do that I wasn’t. The first two are exporting and importing filters and preferences/settings.

The last one would be to somehow populate my old posts into my new account. Exporting and importing seems like it would be ripe for some form of exploitation, so I can understand why it’s not available.
But maybe something like a “silent” boost would be possible. Where you can boost the post but not have it show up on in the timelines. Wouldn’t want to cause a huge amount of posts from 1 person in a short span.

I have moved my old account over as it's handle/username was no longer fitting.

Here is my re- post 🦄

I have been working in "IT" for over 15 years. Starting all the way at the bottom and working my way up.

I mostly work in small and medium sized business as a security professional. Helping them to uplift their security posture. This involves a lot of education around the basics and what is and isn't good practice and/or value for money.
I have recently also started doing our security awareness presentations, and I'm absolutely loving sharing my knowledge.

Outside of work I play video games, dabble in 3D printing and home automation.
Other people tell me I'm a foodie, so I guess I am. I'd probably describe myself more as a dessert aficionado 😋

I absolutely love Unicorns 🦄

I also have my own blog where I'll share some of the knowledge I've gained over the years, both technical and non-technical (link is in my bio).

I'm and prefer they/them. But won't get upset at you if you forget.
