John Julius Cooper, 2nd Viscount Norwich, known as John Julius Norwich, wrote brilliant history books, but also the book performed here. A kind of humour which I enjoy, and hope you do too.

24.12.2024 00:21John Julius Cooper, 2nd Viscount Norwich, known as John Julius Norwich, wrote brilliant history books, but also the book performed here....I was impressed by this quiet, quite detailed dissection of just one of the lies Trump told in his recent interview.
The time this takes is why the interviewer didn't challenge him as much as many truth-lovers wished: one lie would take a quarter of the interview, and his followers would just believe his outright denial.

Goodhart's Law: “When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.” I met this in teachers teaching to nationwide tests, then in parents asking me to tutor kids to pass gifted and talented tests to enter selective schools.
Here's a different but equally concerning example: https://youtu.be/FtuSG5fPJkw?feature=shared
I just remembered enjoying this.
BTW, the singer often has interesting subtitles.

TLDR: " In voting for Vice President Harris, I assume that her public policy views are vastly different from my own, but I am indifferent in this election as to her policy views on any issues other than America’s Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law, as I believe all Americans should be."

This interested me. I hope you enjoy it. A basalt stone axe, Australia, late 19th C.
The stick for a handle was cut and split while green, and then bent by heating it up over hot coals and incrementally applying pressure to both ends. The heated stick can eventually be bent back onto itself, with the stone axe pinched at the apex on the inside of the curve. On this example, the stick apparently bent off-centre so the ends of the handle are of unequal length.

The Hanna Arendt award to “honor individuals who identify critical and unseen aspects of current political events and who are not afraid to enter the public realm by representing their opinion in controversial political discussions" was going to be aborted because the author wrote a piece on the pre-October situation in Gaza, comments like worries Arendt expressed in the 1950s.

over 2 hours of 3 appeals court judges questioning 2 opposing lawyers on their legal arguments - a case which may become a major US reference when balancing the 1st Amendment against the need to ensure a fair trial. Questions asked cover edge cases, including "What is a threat?" "What is 'contacting' a person in the days of social media and the www?"

Prof Matt Kuperholz, a former chief data scientist with PwC, said even though artificial intelligence platforms had been further developed and safeguards strengthened since the study was conducted, he was “able to replicate the results in less than one minute”.
“No amount of inbuilt safeguards is going to stop the misuse of the technology,” said Kuperholz, who is now a researcher with Deakin University.

My bloke came in from work, and with a grin said:
"A coworker saw something I had written by hand, and asked: 'Are you left handed?' and I said 'No.'
"Then they said 'Are you writing with your left hand?' and I said 'No'.
"Then they said: 'Why does your writing slope to the left on the line?' and I said 'Because the pad was sloped when I was writing.' "
