I had a ratification meeting last week, and after the vote, I introduced myself to several members I hadn't met before as their union rep. They pretty much all thanked me for helping the local with bargaining: "Bargaining sucks," was a common refrain.

Which... yes, bargaining can certainly be trying. But also, it's a better deal than you get literally anywhere else in American working life. You can actually tell your boss his ideas are stupid and you have better ones, and he has to listen!
