Even China doesn’t want those jobs anymore, and they are investing heavily in education, research, and innovation. So the goal shouldn’t be to bring manufacturing back, the goal should be not to lose the highly qualified jobs to China in addition.

As a professor at TU Wien, I've been looking for Heisenbugs (software bugs that alter their behaviour when you try to debug them) for more than a decade now, and I can't think of a better environment for my research.

As many of my colleagues and collaborators in the US experience now, conditions for researchers can change for the worse very quickly. Here in Vienna, on the other hand, the situation has improved significantly over the last decade. I'm counting on the fact that this trend will continue, as many efforts are underway to support science and research (and I'm doing my best to contribute to this). Because I enjoy living and doing research in Vienna!
