Brilliant night of visual astronomy! I was able to use the 3x Barlow with 8” Dob. Clearly saw the Cassini devision in Saturns ring, and three of the moons. The stripes on Saturn were clear. On Jupiter, the wavy details of the dark bands were discernible. Saw Io emerging from transit, a small bright dot just besides Jupiter, the movement apparent during 30 minutes observation. Moon’s edge was quite fun to observe, the crater mountains giving 3d effects. The view was amazingly steady! #Astrodon

The images flickered and distorted, making the planets looking like dancing balls of light. No focus could be found. It was the kind of night that imaging was pointless. Perhaps better luck tonight? Seems clearing up

No focus could be...Entirely missed solar eclipse - cloud and rain. But here is this year’s first Jupiter imaged last Wednesday. 8” Meade, f30, 6x1min 10 percent stacked. It seems not much going on this side of Jupiter. #astrophotography #astronomy #Astrodon

The bands were clear. I even saw the shadow of one of the moons! Compared to imaging, visually observing the planets is interesting in its own way. #astronomy

Meade 8”, 1.5 Barlow element attached to ADC, 6x2min videos 5 percent stacked. Happy day! This is it for Saturn this year for me. Next up is Jupiter. #astrophotography #astronomy #Astrodon

22.9.2023 02:48Saturn imaged last night, stacked 4 x 5 min video, 8” Meade 2x Barlow. Decent details! #astrophotography #AstrodonNorth America Nebula, imaged three nights ago with RedCat51, ASI530MC, NBZ filter, 52 x 2 min subs, software SiriL, PhotoShop, and StarNet++. Happy how it turned out, quite a bit of details! This nebula is near the bright star Deneb high in the sky right now. The shape looks like the map of North America #Astrodon #astrophotography #astronomy

First Saturn image after nearly two years. Interesting brightness variation across the ring, not sure if this is real but it is what come out and I like it 😄 Hope to have a few more imaging sessions for Saturn before moving in to Jupiter. #Astrodon #astrophotography #astronomy #saturn #planet

Happily imaging Saturn now. #astrophotography

But...Imaging North America Nebula tonight with RedCat 51 and the NBZ filter. First time seeing this target, quite excited! While the RedCat doing its thing, I scanned the sky visually with 4” Newtonian desktop Dob, which is a cheap scope. Nevertheless I was able to spot Andromeda galaxy and the globular cluster M13. Fun night! #Astrodon #astrophotography #astronomy

While the RedCat doing...Dumbbell Nebula, imaged with Meade 8”, 0.63 reducer, IDAS NBZ nebula filter on Tuesday. 38 x 2 min subs. Fun target to image! A star explored 150 thousand years ago, creating this beautiful expanding gas. With the filter plate solving was not easy but all worked out in the end. #astrophotography #Astrodon #astronomy

Saturn is out, so for next few months it would be all about the two gas giants for the Meade #astrophotography #Astrodon

First time spotting it with 8” #Dob . That ringed orange glow in the eyepiece is so gorgeous!! Also, Andromeda galaxy is out in the east! Despite that my sky is heavily light polluted in the east because of NYC, the core can be spotted even in the finder scope! Seeing it makes me as excited as the first time I saw through a 5” Newtonian. At the time I was just starting and was not sure what I was seeing. Now I am very sure !! #Astrodon

I saw globular clusters M10, M12, M71, and planetary nebulae dumbbell nebula, ring nebula, and blinking nebula NGC 6826. Ring nebula was especially vivid high in the sky.
Finding targets using the finder scope and SkySafari is quite efficient and fun! There is certain charm in seeing DSOs directly rather than through astrophotography 😄 #Astrodon

I saw globular clusters M5, M10, M12, then checked out galaxies M81 and M82. Getting good at star hopping with the finder scope starting from the bright stars. #Astrodon

A long hopping from Vega. At high magnification the globular cluster was brilliant! Individual stars were sparkling on top of a ball of light. I have to say this is the best DSO I have seen so far in this Bortle 6/7 sky. Great to star gaze again. Last time I used the Dob, Arcturus was at the zenith; now it is almost behind the trees. #Astrodon #astronomy

Coming from another galaxy no less! #astronomy #astrophotography #Astrodon

14.6.2023 23:30No smoke in the air today for sure! Another go at the Pinwheel galaxy and the supernova in it #astronomy #Astrodon #astrophotographyLast week the smoke from Canadian fire rolled in and ruined the imaging session, but I savaged enough to show the supernova in M101 galaxy! Left is from last week; right is from two years ago. The marked stars 1-4 shown for correspondence between the two. The bright star on the left pointed by the arrow is the supernova! It is absent from the right image. Not often we get to see a new star appearing in the sky, let alone from another galaxy! Will image again. #astronomy #Astrodon
