🏳️‍⚧️1) Companies will sponsor not just Pride but billboards ads lawn signs TV/Radio celebrating the beauty of trans kids & gender non-conforming people.
🏳️‍🌈2) Elected officials community leaders clergy parents bosses co-workers talk about their gay & trans family & friends. Moderate Republicans ask colleagues to pledge now to push back on & repeal the demonizing, censoring, banning, criminalizing bills hurting #queer people trying to stay safe & live in communities in peace.
🌈3) I want every non-queer / #ally who hears a threat or ugly stereotype to ask the person for respect & kindness, let others know bigotry, #racism cruelty towards any group of people is unacceptable.
4) Esp in small towns for people to post, wave, hang, wear #pride colors, esp the trans & progress flags.
Allies change the environment for us & for those who might think their hate is normal.
You make us safer, show we’re not alone. ❤️

First the #idaho legislature came to ban Spanish & even though I objected, it’s not my native language so I knew I’d get by. But then lawmakers came for my right to #abortion & I protested but knew it affected me little because I’m old & #queer. Next they came denying the right for queers to be served by gas stations, stores & restaurants, even lunch counters— but it was #covid & I wasn’t eating out. Soon they came for my right to be #vaccinated & I knew I had a strong immune system so I’d likely survive. When they came for my #marriage I was bothered & said so, knowing I could cross into #nevada for new one from the little chapel with the blinking lights. When they came for the hormones #trans kids need to protect themselves from puberty, I fought hard, though I was already most certainly old. At last, when they came for our right to cross state lines to find those tattered parts of our freedom, my pleas were too late as my crossing had become a felony and they locked me in jail.

From that one who wakes from sleep to choose the plaid over the v-neck, the pastel shirt or silk jacket, some are safe where they wander and others labor to belong. To this one who lingers on the earrings, hair high and lips red, longing for or relishing the glimmer, the sound of heels on stone. And to those who transverse the place boldly or zig zag, delicate and coarse, sparkling and olive green or the others who work to blend, invisible, fastidious, safe... No gender is an island, a small place where only the extreme of us belong. Each of us holds a continent inside us and we walk some ground, far from the extremes, far from the lines others draw for us.
