We found out Thursday afternoon that my never-say-die, force-of-nature mother-in-law had said the words, "I want to die and be with my husband."

I drove my husband to the airport at 4:30 Friday morning. He was with her by 9 Chicago time. She was sleepy but smiled at him.

Yesterday morning, on her 88th birthday and her 68th wedding anniversary, my vibrant mother-in-law departed from this world.

She left everything she touched better than it was before, including me. I miss her.

My first kid turned 19 yesterday. My younger turned 13 last month, so this is the year of two teens.

For dinner we drank from the good crystal and ate bao and potstickers. The kids asked about times they did funny things while sleeping. We laughed remembering them when they were younger.

Then we crammed together on the sofa to watch Shrek and the younger grudgingly admitted to liking it.

It was sweet and so fun.

What are we stocking up on before the #BigStorm / #Stormageddon / #PolarVortex hits? I have a gas stove, food in my fridge and pantry, candles, blankets and physical books. Oh, also I have dogs and my family to snuggle with. My kids are first-class snugglers and yes that is a brag.

I'm heading out to pick up a prescription so I'm trying to think of other things I might need.
