I am constantly trying to explain to clients the reality of their software’s quality—the good and the bad.
Quite a while back, I came across a system that was so bad, that the only way that I could draw an analogy was to a builder that uses Asbestos as a building material.

This story is an analogy to software development. Have you ever seen a project collapse because of poor decisions? And how would you change things next time?

Well, after only being the in the codebase for an hour, I found a staggering number of issues, many of which were trivial to exploit.
Trying to get the other stakeholders to understand the impact of the source of their biggest issues, #CopyAndPaste

At nearly 50m away, I was impressed by my Sigma lens being able to resolve the drops of water falling from the swans neck.
Further away in the bay, there were some other swans swimming and dipping below the surface.

In general terms, it is the thing that if it fails, everything comes to a halt. Generally, it is impossible to remove a SPOF, but unwittingly, we often have a common SPOF that will impact multiple dependant services, and during a failure, make the impact significantly larger.

Suddenly, it crashed into a wall, the propellers shattered, sending shards flying in all directions. One of the largest shards, a jagged piece of carbon fibre and plastic. As the Chief Remote Pilot, it served as a constant warning: things can go wrong, and if circumstances had been slightly different, I could have had a large chunk of propeller embedded in my leg, far from the surface.
