World Building time. In the log I've been writing with one of our players, his Vulcan-Romulan Combat Medic, Lia, meets a pair of Reman ale brewers at the Christmas market in Stuttgart. Lia forges a friendship with them, and so now I'm working on filling out background for them to become reoccurring NPCs.

Currently working on picking out the name for their farm where they grow what they brew into ale. Running a poll on our Discord, if we end up with a tie, might put it up here.

The biggest things that hit me about this movie, and probably a large part of why people are being negative: there's *a lot* of modern slang in the dialog. Trek usually is very careful to avoid slang, and it's part of the feel of the show.

This is a Star Trek movie, but it's not a Starfleet movie. The latter is always the former, but the former isn't always the latter, though honestly this is probably the first canon not Starfleet thing we've seen.

I do appreciate that it gave us a deeper look into Georgiou. We got to see more of how she was made, we got to see where she ended up after Carl sent her away. We got to see how Michael Burnham ruined a perfectly good tyrant. I enjoyed that.

I enjoyed the fight sequences as well. I could tell that Michelle Yeoh was having *fun* in this, and she literally deserves the world, so giving her a playground like this movie is the least Trek could do for her.

So, anyone who follows me knows I have Thoughts™ re: S31 in canon. TL;DR: for newbs is that I feel canon has lost the plot with it outside DS9, though Lower Decks did attempt to reel it back in a bit. S31 is a *rogue* org, and treating it as above the board guts the point.

The movie doesn't push the canon any worse in that regard, at least, but it doesn't do anything to repair the damage either. That's fine, that wasn't the point.

Non spoiler thoughts: I can see why people don't think this feels like Star Trek. Particularly the heavy use of modern slang. It feels very much like the sort of insanity we get in Star Trek RPs.

Overall, it was an enjoyable watch.

This makes me glad that I still have the nice Langenscheidt's Pocket German-English Dictionary my parents got for me through my German teacher in high school. Nice durable plastic cover and printed in Germany! A little old, printed in 1999, but should still serve to verify my footnotes.

Okay, as a courtesy to the readers, we often offer language footnotes when we use words and phrases that aren't in English in our mission logs. Most of the time this is for Klingon, but a log that's in the process of being written includes a little bit of German: Weihnachtsmarkt, "Mein Gott", and Danke.

Would our readers appreciate these having footnotes?
