I actually used ChatGPT to gen up the little script, not because I couldn't do it pretty quickly, but because I wanted to see if it new what the .obj file format was, and could determine for itself which lines needed changing and how to change them. It did and it could. Pretty cool!

There are several different file formats for specifying 3d objects (as Tannenbaum wrote, "The good thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from." One such standard is the obj or .obj open format. By itself, the .obj file definition does not support coding surface shading properties in the .obj file,

Quick Post #4: 3d Printed Monitor Stand
I have a 7" touch screen monitor for Raspberry Pi's. I wasn't happy with the stand that it originally came with, which was rather flimsy, and the stand broke twice. But I got a 3d printer from my wife for Christmas, and I decided I could build a better stand for it. To design the stand, I used TinkerCad, which while less sophisticated than many other tools,

Elon Musk's federal government email address is erm71@who.eop.gov. Just thought some folks might like to know. https://theintercept.com/2025/03/06/elon-musk-doge-email-address-foia/

Doge has their dashboard of inaccurate claims of savings. We need a web dashboard of actual harms resulting from their actions.
Here's some of the impacts of eliminating USAID (see https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/02/health/usaid-cuts-deaths-infections.html?unlocked_article_code=1.1E4.qM8C.BTMGBeYjExG3&smid=url-share and https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/03/03/health/usaid-memo.html) Unlike DOGE, the harms dashboard should cite sources.

I guess if you're ending our representative system of government there's no need to pretend to represent the people or care what they think.

3/3 Some of this is just stupidity, but a lot is deliberate destruction of organizations that serve the American people rather than business.

2/3 Similarly, the CFPB, funded by the Federal Reserve, NOT the federal government, saved Americans tens of billions of dollars per year. Musk wants to expand X into a payment service. The CFPB oversees payment services.
How does it save the government money to fire staff whose positions are paid for by user fees, rather than tax revenue or borrowing (e.g., the FDA)? These staff members help ensure the safety of medical devices, including Elon Musk's Neuralink.

1/3 How does it save the government money to fire staff and the slash budgets of independent agencies that don't receive funding from the federal budget, such as the FDIC? While the FDIC has issues, no one has lost a dime of insured bank deposits since the FDIC was created in 1933. And when a bank does fail, the issue is typically resolved by the FDIC within a few days.

Dr. Shoup is what you might call "domain famous." I suspect most on Mastodon have never heard of him, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in transportation or urban planning that hadn't. R.I.P. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/books/donald-shoup-dead.html

Not every acttion, but those that are illegal. Even it means a default. Better that than the end of our system of government.
And make it short term, so that if Trump reneges, he can be held accountable.

A very nice, entertaining restored film from the 1980's on the US whitewater slalom scene, especially leading up to it's peak at the 1979 World Championships (where I was a spectator). Boats and equipment and rules have changed a fair bit since then, but the essence remains.
