I just feel that people shouldn’t be dieing from the cold for the want of a £8 USB powered heating pad, and it seems to me that subsidizing gas on mass is funding the war in Ukraine and that is some we should do as little as possible.
The advantage of USB powered heating pads that heat the air inside your clothes rather than central heating which heats a lot of air outside your clothes is that you can mover from inside to outside without becoming cold.
And the energy use is tiny.
The other advantage of a dehumidifier over central heating for tackling mould is that you can run it after you have gone to bed, when electricity is cheap, or in the middle of the day and it is sunny, if you have a domestic solar system.

I can’t possibly see how using central heating as your primary tool against mould is going to be anything like as cost or energy efficient as using a machine design to remove water from the air.
Yes we have a smart meter, and can see how much electricity our very old dehumidifier uses.
I see a lot of discussion about heat pumps but I really think there needs to be much more discussion about point heating.
I’m sure i’m not the only person who uses this system.
But I feel like it needs to be adopted rapidly.
We use a dehumidifier to deal with the damp.
The house is allowed to get cold.
the other thing we do is use USB powered heating pads.
All of the above is very cheap save for buying the dehumidifier.
Last night it was ligit cold in our house, and yet when I went to bed I was warm. I think hrs watching TV being directly heated, meant even though air was cold i was not.
