Ok guys Mac question, mabey @TheQuinbox would know. If I install an app that has privacy permissions, then later I uninstall, do those permissions get reset without me having to go into Terminal and doing "tccutilreset?" I don't see the app in System Settings under "Privacy and Security" so I'm guessing the answer is yes. I know this didn't used to be the case with older versions of macOS, but wonder if something has changed.

I talk about Siri's new TTS improvements in iOS 18.4, and try unsuccessfully to get info about places in California. Amazingly, I have much better luck with getting answers about machine learning and what it's used for. What a time to be alive, or something.

So got 18.4 and I like what Apple did with Siri's TTS for US English. The main female voice everybody knows and loves sounds a lot less bored now than she did before, but I'm still not able to use the language model based version with VoiceOver as of yet. It seems like the files that VO downloads have been modified slightly, they're a bit bigger than they were before, but essentially it's using the same neural approach as iOS 18 and older. To be honest I would like Apple to focus on making voices outside of Siri again, they're really behind when you compare to Google and Microsoft.

To anybody using UTM on an Apple Silicon based machine, need some help. I tried installing the latest build of ARM Windows 24H2. Everything is going great until I click install. After a few minutes, the entire machine restarted on its own and brought me back to the login window. After booting back in UTM reopened, but seemingly the VM didn’t install properly. After I shut down and restart it again, I kept getting a dialogue telling me the computer was shut down because of a problem.

Looking at the console, it seems like there were too many disc right operations at some point, but I’m not sure if that’s referring to UTM or something else. I ran first aid in Disk Utility and there were no problems detected, but I’m not sure what happened and I’m a little scared to try again.

New open source 3B TTS model just released called Orpheus Speech. The main difference with this one is it's not just a bass model, they fine-tuned on several speakers. Training code is also provided, and they will release more sizes over the next few days. The Huggingface has gone offline, I'm assuming to correct some errors, but I was able to test and the voices sound great. Didn't think to save before trying other stuff, but damn it was cool and really easy to do. Ableton has the best automation accessibility support I've ever seen, and it's gotten even better in 12.2
