TorrentFreak just published an interesting article that explains that geoblocks can be circumvented by VPNs, and how a new Dutch legal case might affect publishers and the future effectiveness of VPNs.
Publishers already know that VPNs can easily circumvent geoblocks, but what if that means that copyright holds can now hold them accountable for VPN users who circumvent the geoblocks?

I had to start watching earlier than 8CST, but Mothra vs Godzilla was pretty fun to watch. I haven't seen many movies as old as it, so the effects were quite fun to take in. As my first #monsterdon watch, it was great choice. Looking forward to next week's! #MothraVsGodzilla

I would never expect it to be used. At least not outside of my test environment. I think Home Assistant would be a much better choice. I would probably use the arbiter in other projects though. I think it would help with making sure the data you think you're receiving is really what you think it is.

I need to get arrays implemented before I can really move on. I think I also need to implement nested objects. It's a bit hazy and I'm working through it as I go. I'm also actually documenting the low-level details as I go though so I don't have to reverse engineer everything every time.

I call it an arbiter, but I'm sure there's a better name I could use. It reflectively looks at an object and constructs a well-defined network object to send over the network. I'm not looking forward to figuring out how to do this in C++ for my ESP.

Although Java isn't my favorite language, I was able to get a lot of ground covered reasonably quick. A bout a year ago I converted everything into Kotlin and while that make a working prototype into a non-working prototype, I'm sure it fixed numerous bugs.

To give a high level overview, I'm basically designing and implementing an IoT protocol with security and privacy in mind. It's a very ambitious and challenging project, but I am making some progress.

5.10.2023 02:33I got my Sonarqube instance back up, so I'll probably procrastinate that migrations and work on another project. My biggest need is migrating away from my Truenas VM. That has a number of jails running on it that I'm not looking forward to migrate. One of my big problems not related to that VM is getting postgres back up. I now have to use cloudnative-pg since the previous postgres image isn't available from TrueCharts anymore.
