The new abeMeda 7.8 adds a new custom selection to the display filter:
This allows you to combine multiple item characteristics when filtering your files. All the item kinds and attributes already offered in the display filter can now be selected and applied concurrently, to even better define the files you are looking for. As before, it can also be applied to album contents and found item results.

Read more about it in the documentation, and try it out, in the new abeMeda 7.8! abemeda.com/en/news_files/abeM

It has sadly been far too quiet around here in the past few weeks. Time to let you in on the latest we're brewing in our current development. For example, we have implemented the image sequence detection, that can drastically speed up cataloging in folders with e.g. huge collections of video still images.

Also, analog to the latest NeoFinder 8.6, we have added a new custom display filter, capable of combining different file kinds and attributes to tailor the displayed items to your requirements.

You can look forward to these, and a number of other new features in the upcoming next release of abeMeda in May - along with the many existing capabilities you already know, of course.

We have discovered an issue with images tagged by PhotoMechanic, which writes GPS values with a low precision to the XMP metadata. This can currently cause abeMeda to show a slightly wrong GPS coordinate as well when cataloging photos.

If you see this problem, either use abeMeda itself for more precise GPS geotagging, or ask us for a development version of the upcoming abeMeda 7.8 with a workaround for that bug in PhotoMechanic.

Today, as an early christmas present, we are very happy to release abeMeda 7.7.7 !
Actually, we have TWO releases today, as our sister product NeoFinder (mastodon.social/@neofinder) also released their version 8.5.2 today as well!

abeMeda 7.7.7 is again a big new release, containing new features, updated support for a number of file formats as well as many improvements and fixes overall. It brings support for distributing libraries with linked catalogs and folders, has updated metadata support for MXF or R3D video files, GIFV and GZ, adds a number of new find options, or better understanding for GPS coordinates and formatted XML texts. A long list of other additions and improvements complete the package this time.

OTD: in the fall of 1998, Norbert and I met on a misty autumn morning, to spend the day laying the groundwork, ideas and concepts for our joint project to bring CDFinder from Mac to Windows.
It's now been 25 years since this fall day, and here we are still going strong. It was a fulfilling journey, though it also feels like we started yesterday. Here’s to many more years to come.

Q: How can I save a Quick Find? Whenever I leave the found items, I lose it and have to search again.

A: Your last used query and its results are kept, and of course stay always available in the Find dialog, until you run a new Find query.
Whenever you leave the Find results to explore items, you can return to the last Find results by simply clicking the Find icon in the toolbar!

Also, to persistently keep your Find query or its results, e.g. to survive the next app restart, you can save your query to the SmartFolders, or the Found Items into an album.

Q: Is there a way to backup our catalog database, so we don’t have to rebuild it completely in case something goes wrong?

A: That’s actually very easy - since abeMeda’s catalogs are plain files, you can simply copy them to a different location to create a backup. Use “Show catalog file” or “Show in Explorer” on the Library to reveal the files themselves, and then copy them manually, or create a scheduled task for that. Best do it at night, so there are no current activities or updates on the catalog files while you copy them. Read about it in our FAQ: abemeda.de/en/en/faq.html#back

Did you know that abeMeda offers options to modify file dates in the file system? You can find commands to set them to different other dates found in the items (creation/modification date, EXIF, XMP, depending on what is available) in the Inspector. And this even works for multiple selected items: in that case, the commands are available in the context menu for the cumulated file size.

abeMeda 7.7 now adds support for the unique Image IDs that can be stored in EXIF data. Some cameras will generate unique IDs and store them in your images using that tag, and some software can as well. abeMeda now reads and stores this value in its catalogs, can show it in the Inspector, its own data column and different export formats. You can also use the Image ID in the Find Editor to locate your images.
