Growing up, I was often criticized for wanting to stay home and enjoy virtual spaces and experiences, as opposed to “going out”. The late 90s/early 2000s internet felt like a portal to another dimension, where anything was possible.

One belief I have is that mistakes aren't often attributable to a software developer, but more often indicate a systemic knowledge gap. Developers are making the best decisions they can with the information they have available at the time. Is that information discoverable? Is it understandable? What safeguards exist to guide the developer to making the correct decision?

I'm starting to think that I may need to precompile Mastodon assets on my machine and FTP them to my instance, to avoid scaling it up/down when it's time to upgrade. To think that we put people on the moon with 4 KB of RAM, but webpack just silently fails if it has anything less than 4 GB!
