That's why art should be made for the creator. If I had sticked to my vision and my desire to just make stuff, I would have finished BR Food Simulator by now and I would have finished Farming Dioramas (and many other prototypes), due to not worrying about the "market".

I'm now living in Japan šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ , my dogs died, my priorities and my point of view about a lot of things have changed, so I'm resuming all these projects and making many others... for me and for the sake of making stuff.

I start creating things FOR ME and then after I make the initial iterations I get blind thinking about the "market".

This also hapenned with my big game project Brazilian Street Food Simulator: I wanted to make it just for me, to toy around with Brazilian machines. So I made that trailer, and a tiny prototype.

Then it went viral and then I got cursed by worrying only about the market :P

But at least the project is still alive after almost a year without progress (Koda, my dog, died šŸ˜¢ šŸ¶ ).

Hi after a 6 month hiatus! I am truly cursed of being a "prototype" gamedev guy - I actually CREATE A LOT of things but never finish them.

2023 I was making a diorama farming game where you would observe the farm sitting at the side of your screen, inspired by Win96's Johnny Castaway.

Then I: "nah, what's the point, who would want play something like that". Fast forward 2 years it's now a hot genre on Steam, fueled by the success of Rusty's Retirement.

All of these:

Solution 1: have a loaded e-book reader in your smartphone.

Solution 2: SteamDeck.

Solution 3: pen + tiny pocket notebook, to doodle, plan, etc.

Solution 4: do nothing. Mindfulness.

So many alternatives to scrolling social media. I have done/am doing all of these for the past ~5 months.

Instagram and TikTok is not a problem, I didn't use them before anyway. I just had to cut these micro-blogging platforms.

I've been using RescueTime since 2010 and my average recorded time was around 4h/day in these websites.

So by quitting them I have FOUR EXTRA HOURS per day of free time.

I recommend everyone to monitor their online activity. It's so much time wasted in these websites. The 5 minutes doom scrolling every now and then add up.

Now back to the cave. See you in a week (or not).

I was on a social media hiatus that lasted ~5 months.

It was great. No X, Mastodon nor BlueSky.

With the extra time:
- Learned vim, neovim (motions and plugins), tmux.
- Read a book per week.
- Progressed the development of my game Brazilian Street Food Simulator
- Started 4 other gamedev projects
- Played World of Warcraft Hardcore (one death = character deleted)
- Played 10s of games from my Steam backlog
- Touched a lot of grass šŸŒ±

I'll still be semi-away, coming back once a week or so.

Unfortunately, worrying about money is necessary for dog longevity. Because then you can always pay for the best food and treatment.

For example, for the 4 days that he spent in intensive care, it cost me only ā‚¬289 here in Portugal's countryside.

In Denmark these same 4 days would have cost me approximately 72000 DKK ~ ā‚¬9653 and the treatment would be much worse (there's a vet culture there of saying "if the dog is already too old, it's better to euthanize").

I moved out at the perfect time.

We almost lost Koda last week due to acute pancreatitis.

He's back home since Sunday and as active as always!

But he's taking a lot of medications, and he has to soon remove his spleen (w/ a golf ball sized tumour), and with his age the surgery is very risky, but needed šŸ˜¢.

He's turning 15 this September.

I never posted this publically: I take a photo per day with Koda. I have more than 5000 daily Koda photos :D

Light theme experimentation report: after 10 days, I've got used to the "Visual Studio Light" VS Code theme, but highly customized (gray bg, better contrasts, etc).

And during the night I switch back to Atom One Dark.

I'm now less dizzy while coding, and my vision is not getting blurry anymore.

Turns out that long term usage of ONLY Dark Themes (and nothing else) is NOT a good idea (at least for me).

I was happily making a Postman clone with C and cimgui (Raylib renderer) but these ugly, very unattractive auto generated binding names started making me want to poke my eyes out.

The code that was a side fun thing turned disgusting to read due to these cimgui function names all over the place.

Maybe I should just manually rename these bindings to something less... automated?

I'm so confused about this, and I can't figure out whether the lights were rotated or not, for example when checking Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 graphics.
