(Algo|Afro) Futures presents the return of the Creative Coding Circles for 2025! These will be a series of free relaxed and casual meetups for Black artists and musicians interested in learning about live coding for music and visuals.
Across three sessions beginning 25th March and taking place at Vivid Projects in Birmingham, UK we will be sampling beginner-friendly programming languages for live coding music and visuals, including Strudel, Hydra and VCV Rack.
This is a great opportunity to network with other creatives, make new connections, and learn about creative coding together in a safe and inclusive environment. This is also a great way to sample live coding ahead of the relaunch of the (Algo|Afro) Futures mentoring programme later this year.
These sessions will be led by (Algo|Afro) Futures founder Antonio Roberts @hellocatfood and Tyger Blue @tygerblue
Sign up details for each session to follow soon.

The (Algo|Afro) Futures mentoring programme will be back in 2025 with an exciting new development! Keep an eye on the website + social media for more news next year.

Read what Emily Mulenga said about their experience of being part of the 2021 cohort:
"The (Algo|Afro) Futures project set me up with a brilliant new skill. It was my first time coding, and @hellocatfood and @yaxu made the learning process super enjoyable. It was also great to be part of a cohort and to be able to support one another. Since the program I’ve been able to apply my skills to a project in collaboration with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (Cut Copy Remix 2) where I created a piece of live coded music based on ringtones."
The paid programme is open to UK-based Black artists.

Read what Samiir Saunders said about their experience of being part of the 2021 cohort:
"I didn’t know anything about the live coding until I took part in (Algo|Afro) Futures in 2021. Since then, my eyes have been opened to whole communities, technologies, and ways of conceptualising music making that I did not have access to before.
If left to my own devices, I would have been utterly lost, as I often find navigating really technical forums/online tutorials by myself to be quite daunting. Thankfully, Antonio and Alex are amazing mentors, who invited me into this new realm with warmth and wisdom. They equipped me with a bunch of new skills whilst also encouraging playful experimentation at every step of the way."
Since taking part in (Algo|Afro) Futures Samiir has gone on to showcase their live coding work at events including No Bounds in Sheffield, Corridor of Light in Manchester, and at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris!
The paid programme is open to UK-based Black artists. Details and application form are on the website: https://algo-afro-futures.lurk.org/
