So, uhh what exactly brought me here?

I've heard of mastodon before and liked the concept, but the recent controversial events happening in the bird app are what gave me the final push to actually give mastodon a try. I tend to be a lurker but something about mastodon seems more friendly and welcoming compared to the blue birdie.
