One of the things I really miss after children is the ability to take vacation from work to work on a project that needs doing, at home or in the world generally.

I used to take vacation from my boring research to do Polonius, the fun research. I can’t do things like that now because if I’m on vacation we don’t have childcare. This would have sucked a lot more if I didn’t get to do the fun research for work, but I still have other things and it does suck.
