There's more than enough raw data out there, plus most webwebs serve more than you ask for. Back in the day I used to go out of my way to find new data streams I liked, but nowadays my infrastructure is more about cutting out the information I don't need.

Here's how I ward my digital space nowadays. 🖥️

Adblock/sponsorblock are the basics, but you can also:
✧pull audio from video essays and music videos (e.g. podtube, yt-dlp)
✧replace clickbait titles with audience-descriptions (e.g. dearrow)
✧crop livestream overlays (streamlink + ffmpeg)
✧remove sidebars and recommendations (e.g. ublock)
✧hide pictures and video from articles (most browsers can do this natively. Or ublock)
✧handwrite bookmarks
✧filter RSS feeds

So I decided I need a municipal project to work on. (not like I have enough hobbies >_>) Went down to a Citizen Projects event to ask about soundproofing/smogproofing the sidewalk in a particularly loud tunnel.

Upside - free coffee, and the people from the city's road management were surprisingly pleasant and engaged. There were a few uncertainties in my proposal (apparently, no one's suggested sectioning off a sidewalk before) but they were willing to talk me through the risks...

Until they realized the tunnel has rail above it. And any project going over or under the tracks has to go through the rail company, not the city.

Now I've got some more emails to write, once I find the spoons. I'm kinda looking forward to it. Might post updates :)

This strategy clicked remarkably well with my brain. I was sure I'd feel exhausted by now. But:

I had 2 weeks to decide on my goals and hype myself up to them, which made executive dysfunction a lot easier to manage. And now that the big goals are done, I even feel comfortable doing a couple small bonus tasks - since I'm looking forward to a few weeks of rest and spoons regen.

The biotope paper also held up miraculously through countless nerve-wracking sinks, and didn't tear. (Until I got impatient)

I'm tempted to try this design again sometime - now that I know what I could've done better (especially on the face and claws) But, I've got the rest of this book to get through so that will wait.

One way to imagine planning your future is like drawing a map. You get an idea of the landscape and how to traverse it. As you walk, you use the map and your surroundings to navigate. And eventually, you reach your goals, or you don't.

That's not how I do it.

The landscape is scary. So instead of drawing a map, I build a narrative catapult. I program a specific story in, which ends at my goal. Once I step inside and send myself flying, the story protects me. I don't need to engage with the landscape, and I can't easily change course until my destination.

Playing around with a lunar schedule; it's been compelling so far, but it's early days. Here's the idealized version I'm working towards atm:

🌑 - Rest, relaxation, outdoors if possible. Energy/spoons go towards choosing priorities and planning the next cycle.
🌓 - Self-care and preparation. Energy goes to acquiring or creating the space for what I want to do.
🌕 - Focused work on my goals. Periodic breaks and check-ins to avoid burnout.
🌗 - Winding down, reflection. Energy goes towards closing & documenting my progress, then towards preparing restful activities.

It was a wild experience; everyone at the table had a different take on the flavor.

It was sweet and sour and savory and intense, and the flavor stuck in my mouth for a long while. My takeaway was "miso with lemon juice," I also heard "currant" and "orange peel" among many other descriptions.

The importer noted "counting my blessings that I don't need to put flavor notes on these"
