He researchers brain mechanisms of emotion, memory, and consciousness and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He is author of The Emotional Brain, Anxious and other books, is the 2023 President-Elect of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness and lead singer and songwriter in the rock band The Amygdaloids
