So, I'm just a lady who studies the horrors of fascism and right wing extermination campaigns, but is it a *good* idea to let nazi propagandists completely control the narrative surrounding a fascist government's rapidly expanding pogrom against a highly-vulnerable marginalized group?
https://truthout.org/articles/trumps-anti-trans-orders-get-most-airtime-on-fox-news-report-finds/
Trump’s Anti-Trans Orders Get Most Airtime on Fox News, Report Finds
"In President Donald Trump’s first month back in the White House, Fox News broadcasted more coverage of his anti-transgender executive orders than both MSNBC and CNN, according to a report by Media Matters for America — allowing the right-wing network to shape public discourse on trans people at a critical time for transgender rights.
“The shocking lack of coverage by more liberal media has allowed Fox News to push increasingly harmful narratives about transgender people,” LGBTQ legislative researcher Allison Chapman told Truthout.
In his first 31 days back in office, Trump signed a slew of anti-trans executive orders undermining the rights and protections of transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people. These policies sought to eradicate legal recognition of transgender identities, reinstate a ban on transgender people in the military, cut federal funding for hospitals providing gender-affirming care to trans people under the age of 19, withhold federal funds from schools that allow trans women to compete in women’s sports, and reverse diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives."
Folks, I'm getting pretty tired of explaining to incredulous cis-het people that the larger liberal establishment doesn't care if trans people live or die; the evidence, whether it's raw television broadcast data, a lack of organized protest to oppose anti-trans laws, or maggot collaborators like Gavin Newsome gleefully telling nazi propagandists they make some good points about trans rights, is literally all around you. As both an antifascist researcher and a target of the anti-trans pogrom, I can assure you that this is real and I'm not overreacting. When a government pursing fascist policies and using eliminationist rhetoric officially decrees that there are only two "biologically" determined "sexes" and thus trans people don't exist, they are following an eliminationist blueprint designed to make trans people not existing an enforced reality; if you want to know how that story ends, you should study the step by step process of isolating, de-personing, and demonizing Jewish people that Hitler and the Nazi Party used to justify, enable, and enact the Holocaust. Maybe you already realize this, maybe you know that the fascists aren't going to stop eliminating groups of people they don't like after they get done erasing the existence of trans people, maybe you even care about trans lives on a personal level; but your leaders don't, the opinion makers who control public discourse don't, and the politics being pursued by the larger liberal establishment in the face of an active anti-trans pogrom actually occurring as we speak, make that abundantly clear.
Or, maybe you don't care. Perhaps, like a lot of cis het people, you're not openly transphobic, but you find trans people somehow scandalous, distasteful, or disconcerting, and that's enough to buy your silence and keep you from speaking out against the silence of your leaders and media organizations. I don't know how to make folks who don't think my existence matters care about trans lives if telling them that refusing to speak out and fight back now, means their families, their children, will be next, isn't enough. What I can tell you is that avoiding the subject and hoping the nazis lose interest in erasing trans people from our society isn't going to work, and hasn't worked for anyone else trying to stop a fascist takeover in all of human history.
The fact is that Fox News (and every other fascist propaganda outlet in America) hasn't been pushing a moral panic about trans people (particularly trans women) while gleefully celebrating legal assaults on trans people's right to exist, for no reason; these fascists are dead serious about this, they want their base to be excited about this, and they're putting in the work every day to make sure public opinion continues to favor further marginalizing, punishing, and yes eventually eliminating, trans people. The fact that corporate media muppets and bougie Democrat political strategists can point me to polls showing that the fascists are moving the needle, and defending trans people is unpopular with suburban white voters who picked Trump anyway, doesn't prove their cowardice is justified, it just proves that the larger liberal establishment isn't working hard enough to oppose an anti-trans pogrom; and that, whether you want to believe it or not, puts everyone in danger - even you.

A recent analysis by a respected advocacy group says Trump could issue lifetime appointments for hundreds more pro-fascist judges over the next four years:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/18/trump-judge-appointments-analysis
Trump could reshape judiciary with 300 judge appointments, analysis shows
"Demand Justice warns that Trump’s wave of judicial nominees would cement an extreme agenda through lifetime appointments of judges whose qualifications centre on their willingness to gut Medicaid, privatise social security, shred environmental protections, eliminate veterans’ benefits and demonstrate loyalty to the president.
Last week, for example, Trump lavished praise on Aileen Cannon, a judge in Florida who repeatedly ruled in his favour during a case in which he was accused of mishandling classified documents. “Actually, she was brilliant, she moved quickly,” he said in a highly unorthodox speech at the justice department. “She was the absolute model of what a judge should be, and she was strong and tough.”
I really don't have a lot to add here that isn't covered in the article, but I would like to assure you that I'm not mocking folks who've been waiting for the courts to ride in and save the day maliciously. If you're reading this, there's a pretty good chance we both already know Trump is a fascist, the MAGA/America First agenda is fascism, and these maggots have managed to stack a boatload of fascist judges throughout the judiciary branch; even the news that Trump stands poised to appoint more judges that will support his, again, fascist agenda probably doesn't come as a complete surprise to you. What I'm bitterly teasing you for is knowing all that, and still assuming a regime packed to the gills with literal nazis is going to give a flying fuck about what the referee says if those rulings go against them, and continuing to wait around hoping that at some point the nazis will start playing by the rules.
The reality is that these fascist maggots don't care about your petitions, your angry phone calls, or even the authority of the American judiciary. The media isn't going to stop them, the opposition party isn't going to stop them, and the courts aren't going to stop them either. Shouting "have you no decency" at nazis who literally do not have any decency or even a real capacity for shame, has not historically stopped fascism so I think we can safely assume that's not going to work here either.
If we want this fascist nightmare to end, we're going to have to literally shut this shit down, and that doesn't happen when you're playing by the rules and expecting fascists to follow suit. Letters to the editor, polite marches, and refusing to buy a Tesla isn't going to be enough; we're going to have to use our physical bodies to grind the gears of state and the larger fuck barrel to a halt, or none of this is going to stop and everything will get significantly worse. We need to make it impossible both to conduct fascist policy, and for the rich bastards behind all this to turn a profit while doing so. If you want a model for what that looks like, just study the anti-genocide protests on American college campuses, or the nationwide protests against racialized police violence after the execution of George Floyd; we need to do that, except bigger, more disruptive, and with a clearer eye towards not stopping until the society that gave these nazis the power to try this fascist bullshit works for the people, and not just rich nazis who'll gladly unleash Mussolini 2.0 on us all before they share power with those they consider mere commodities to be exploited - people like you and I.

A recent...To the surprise of precisely no one who isn't a credulous rube high on imperialism, settler colonialism, and weapons contractor bribes, Israel has started bombing children and houses again in Gaza. Naturally of course a Trump regime that wants to pave over Gaza and build luxury hotels and casinos for an obscenely wealthy, globetrotting ruling class if it can just find a way to get rid of all those pesky Palestinians, stands fully in support of resuming the US armed, funded, and politically protected genocide.
https://www.commondreams.org/news/israel-violates-cease-fire
Backed by Trump, Israel Shreds Cease-Fire Deal and Kills Over 400 Across Gaza
"A barrage of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip early Tuesday killed more than 400 people and left a fragile cease-fire agreement in tatters just over two months after it was reached, with Israel's prime minister pledging "increasing military strength" in an enclave already decimated by more than a year of bombing.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the Netanyahu government consulted with the Trump administration ahead of the latest Gaza bombardment. Leavitt expressed the White House's total support for Israel's attacks.
While Israel had been carrying out more limited deadly attacks on Gaza despite the cease-fire deal—including strikes over the weekend that killed at least nine—Tuesday's bombings were described as the "heaviest assault on the territory since the cease-fire took effect in January."
Speaking frankly, there are more detailed articles featuring a lot more atrocity porn available online, but I chose to highlight this short piece because the headline writer understood the importance of centering the Trump regime's full support for this monstrous, objectively illegal bullshit. The US government is supplying the bombs, funding the Netanyahu government, and actively praising Israel for resuming crimes against humanity; that makes the atrocities in Gaza Trump's genocide, the same as it made them Biden's genocide before him. None of this is lost on most media observers outside of the United States, but an American corporate media complex that has always supported the mass murder of Palestinians remains reluctant to center that knowledge, even if it hurts the fascist assclown currently calling their work "illegal" and threatening to come after them with the full force of the U.S. government.
Of course everyone in the media, American or international, is claiming to be "shocked" that Israel has willfully imploded the ceasefire, and telling you that you should be shocked too. Naturally however, that position too is a grotesque farce that ignores available evidence and reality itself. This may be the first large-scale bombing since Netanyahu agreed to pretend he cared about a cease-fire for a while, but Israel already resumed the genocide when it tightened the blockade of, and cut electricity to Gaza; a region that is more or less constantly in a state of humanitarian crisis because Israel has been conducting a war of extermination there and purposely starving the population inside for seventeen months and counting. Furthermore, all of this is pretty consistent with statements made by various high ranking officials in the Netanyahu government, who have openly flouted their intentions to break the cease fire and ethnically cleanse (by whatever means are necessary) the Palestinian people in Gaza. The fact that American corporate media rarely reports on these stated intentions, and is foundationally committed to credulously taking Netanyahu's word for it when he claims to be seeking peace while bombing hospitals and murdering babies, does not mean the larger US establishment is unware of these facts - just that they're hoping you are.
The fact is, Trump, his administration, and American arms manufacturers should be on trial for crimes against humanity as we speak, and the reality that he is not alone in that because committing genocide in Gaza is a largely bipartisan position in the American establishment does absolutely nothing to alter the situation.

18.3.2025 19:53To the surprise of precisely no one who isn't a credulous rube high on imperialism, settler colonialism, and weapons contractor bribes,...(I know I've posted this one before but I couldn't find the old post and I need it to demonstrate to someone being very obtuse that democracy under capitalism is more or less a sick joke and very unlikely to be democratic; it's not that I'm not for democracy, I'm just not going to pretend we have one in a free market fundamentalist society where rich nazis own literally everything - including our governments.)
18.3.2025 18:12(I know I've posted this one before but I couldn't find the old post and I need it to demonstrate to someone being very obtuse that...“Liberalism and Democracy were pre-eminently political concepts, and since most of the original adherents of both did scarcely consider the economic conditions of society, the further development of these conditions could not be practically reconciled with the original principles of Democracy, and still less with those of Liberalism. Democracy with its motto of equality of all citizens before the law, and Liberalism with its right of man over his own person, both were wrecked on the realities of capitalist economy. As long as millions of human beings in every country have to sell their labour to a small minority of owners, and sink into the most wretched misery if they can find no buyers, the so-called equality before the law remains merely a pious fraud, since the laws are made by those who find themselves in possession of the social wealth. But in the same way there can be no talk of a right over one's own person, for that right ends when one is compelled to submit to the economic dictation of another if one does not want to starve.”

18.3.2025 18:10“Liberalism and Democracy were pre-eminently political concepts, and since most of the original adherents of both did scarcely consider...All of the above then brings us to last night, when Trump attempted to declare all of former US president Joe Biden's outgoing pardons "void" based on the purported use of an autopen, and treating longstanding winger conspiracy arguments about why certain presidential orders signed by Democrats (and seemingly *only* Democrats) aren't legal because using said autopen means the president didn't officially sign them into law; a nonsensical theory that has no legitimate basis in law, and owes more to schoolyard games of Simon Says than any sort of official rule or policy.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/17/trump-biden-pardons-void
Trump makes unsupported claim Biden pardons are ‘void’ as he used autopen
"Trump made his claim in a post to his social media platform that used his abusive nicknames for Biden and members of the House January 6 committee, writing: “The ‘Pardons; that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen.
“In other words, Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them!”
I'll be honest in saying that I don't think this is a great article by The Guardian because it spends way too much time proving that Trump's autopen argument is "wrong," and that there is nothing abnormal about the president automatically producing his or her signature as part of their official duties. After all, being wrong about the law has done little to stop Trump's fascist agenda so far, and given that this is a conspiracy argument that has repeatedly been deployed by the ultra-right reactionary "fringe" of the larger Republican coalition against former US president (and Democrat) Barack Obama, a simple one paragraph debunking and a greater focus on why this conspiracy argument has resurfaced now that this same ultra-right reactionary "fringe" has become the dominant force in GOP politics, would likely have been more productive. Furthermore, the Guardian repeatedly frames this as a "claim" by Trump, when Downmarket Mussolini's Truth Social post at least, clearly indicates that the president is trying to void Biden's pardons by fiat, over social media, in a very direct sense. Legally speaking Trump doesn't have the power to do that just because he's president, and social media posts aren't legal edicts, but that just brings us back to the fact that Trump being wrong about the law and trying to rewrite it via public proclamations against his enemies, hasn't really stopped him from turning his animosities into official policies so far during his second term in office.
Given Trump's own words as reprinted here however, it is abundantly clear that he's pursuing the autopen argument to allow himself to target members of the January 6th Committee that investigated his 2021 coup attempt, which in turn ties into both Downmarket Mussolini's quest to punish officials that brought accusations or charges against him, and his efforts to seize control of the Justice Department and use it as an instrument of authoritarian vengeance for those (completely legal) activities. Here too we find the previous pattern by which the regime turns unreality into official action occurring once again; the Heritage Foundation, the same fundie fascist thinktank that wrote the Project 2025 document we can now confirm lies at the heart of Trump's fundie fascist agenda, produces a report attacking the validity of Biden's pardons and pushing the autopen conspiracy argument, Trump then immediately repeats those claims to reporters on Air Force One before saying the courts will have to decide but he thinks the pardons are "null and void," and then early the very next morning Trump attempts to literally void the pardons via fiat in a Truth Social post with no mention of courts whatsoever. At this point, all we're waiting for is the larger Trump regime to begin acting as if Der Führer's ranty argument has the force of law and the unreality cycle of transformational autocracy is complete.
Can president Trump actually get away with this scheme? I don't have the slightest idea, but the aggressiveness with which he's pushing the autopen argument, and the speed with which his larger political movement has already laid the groundwork to give it a go, strongly suggests that Trump isn't just ranting and he means to actually turn this aggrieved conspiracy bullshit into a very real attempt to persecute and neutralize his political enemies through the force of law.

18.3.2025 01:05All of the above then brings us to last night, when Trump attempted to declare all of former US president Joe Biden's outgoing pardons...Pursuant to Trump's threats to criminalize media outlets that are critical of him, please keep in mind that we just discussed a February 18th Executive Order that gives Trump de facto control over the previously independent Federal Communications Commission, or FCC:
https://social.treehouse.systems/@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes/114146214494658387
As I noted in that post, Trump has already appointed bootlicking fascist and Project 2025 co-author Brandon Carr to run the FCC, and that little minion is *already* using his powers to threaten the broadcasting licenses of media that (coincidentally, I'm sure...) has been critical of the Trump regime, investigate NPR and PBS, and go after media outlets for diversity "crimes." In that context, the suggestion that Trump intends to use his power as president to target media critical of him is *obviously* credible, because he's already usurped the power to do so and begun applying that power against critical media, over at the FCC.
17.3.2025 23:57Pursuant to Trump's threats to criminalize media outlets that are critical of him, please keep in mind that we just discussed a February...Okay, so given Trump's move to undo pardons granted by outgoing US President Joe Biden so he can target DoJ officials who prosecuted him for real crimes he actually committed, and the above-mentioned pattern of Trump's aggrieved fascist ranting transmuting into official, state-recognized reality, while serving to justify oppressive action by the regime, what are we to make of Trump declaring that media outlets that report on him critically, including named organizations MSNBC and CNN, are "illegal" during that same speech at the US Department of Justice? Well, I think for starters it's safe to assume that none of this means *anything* good.
Donald Trump Claims MSNBC And CNN Are ‘Illegal’ In DOJ Speech
"The president gave a speech Friday at the Justice Department railing against news outlets he says have unfairly targeted him.
Trump singled out CNN and MSNBC, which he called “MSNDC,” claiming those outlets “literally write 97.6% bad about me” and are “political arms of the Democrat Party.”
He added, “In my opinion, they’re really corrupt and they’re illegal, what they do is illegal.”
Trump then argued that media organizations that report negative things about him “are really no different than a highly paid political operative,” insisting, “it has to stop, it has to be illegal” because “it’s influencing judges and it’s really, eh, changing law, and it just cannot be legal.”
He additionally claimed that news outlets cover him negatively “in total coordination with each other.”
Whether they're playing it cool on purpose, or not, this story is once again mostly being reported in corporate media as an extension of Trump's longstanding grievances with anything he perceives as critical media coverage and the outlets that produce it; although boutique "progressive" websites and nonprofit media have been a little quicker to realize why this isn't just "Trump being Trump" anymore and how dangerous it is to assume our new American Mussolini lacks purpose in his actions here.
Frankly, I don't think it's an accident that in the very same speech Trump previewed loyalty investigations into Justice Department officials, and attempted to usurp the power of his Attorney General by declaring himself the country's "chief law enforcement officer," he declared liberal establishment media an active political arm of the opposition party, and accused them of both actively conspiring against him, and engaging in criminal activity. What does it mean when the "chief law enforcement officer" declares media critical of him "corrupt" and "illegal?" And how much more ominous is that meaning when its set against the backdrop of a US president celebrating his election as a victory against (what is now) his own Justice Department, while promising what sure sounds like legal investigations into DoJ lawyers and officials that dared to bring charges against him?
The obviously implication here is that Trump thinks the DoJ should target and prosecute media outlets that are critical of him, he has the right to order the department to do so because he's running the DoJ, and anyone who opposes that activity is likely to find themselves purged from the department at a minimum, and quite possibly prosecuted themselves. What many of the corporate media outlets likely to be targeted by Trump's assault on free speech rights and critical media coverage have passed off as a vengeful old man "playing the hits" is actually a fully formed operation to seize control of the American legal apparatus or at least the prosecution portion of it, redefine what is a crime, manufacture consent to target his enemies with the US Department of Justice, and threaten to punish or dispose of anyone who dares to get in his way over a silly little thing like "the law." Trump may have delivered it like a drunk racist grandpa, but his speech is clearly a calculated attempt by the president to drastically expand his own powers, and prosecute his fascist agenda - whether he's doing it for revenge or not (he is), is ultimately the *least* important factor here.
This then dovetails into the methods by which Trump is actually attempting to accomplish this fascist, anti-free speech bullshit; specifically the larger narrative of unreality the Trump regime is constructing day by day. Trump is working to equate critical media with his political opposition, his political opposition with protestors, and protestors with terrorists, while his larger regime takes actions against that opposition as if what Trump is suggesting here were already indisputable truth. I hate to keep bringing up literally Hitler, the Nazi Party, and the German Enabling Act of 1933, but students of history will gladly tell you that Hitler's playbook for transforming Germany into a autocratic one-party dictatorship looks an awful lot like exactly what Trump is doing here.

17.3.2025 23:13Okay, so given Trump's move to undo pardons granted by outgoing US President Joe Biden so he can target DoJ officials who prosecuted him...When this story broke a few days ago, I decided to skip covering Trump's shocking DoJ speech because I only have so much time to write each day, and applying a power dynamic analysis to the news at the time lead me to believe focusing on Trump's anti-trans policies, attacks on protest rights, and direct violation of judge's orders designed to protect marginalized targets of the Trump regime from state oppression, was more important than raising awareness about Downmarket Mussolini's so-called "airing of grievances" towards government lawyers who prosecuted him for very real crimes he absolutely committed. If nothing else I assumed the media would swiftly jump to the defense of DoJ lawyers, but they'd be less inclined to do so for incarcerated ppl, deported migrants, student protestors, and trans Americans.
Unfortunately in the time since, corporate media coverage of Trump's threats during his DoJ speech has become extremely squishy, actively working to minimize the gravity of what Trump said, while simultaneously Dowmarket Mussolini has revealed that said speech was simply an early salvo in what is almost certainly going to be an ongoing quest to root out and punish anyone who dared to bring court cases (criminal or civil) against him. Given that this is *not* going away, we're gonna have to back up a few days here and talk about Trump's DoJ speech and why its implications are far more serious than the "airing of grievances" many larger media outlets reported it as.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/us-trump-justice-department-speech_n_67d4a1ace4b08455bb0719ee
Trump Pledges To 'Expel Rogue Actors' In Political Speech At Justice Department
"Though other presidents have spoken from the Justice Department’s ceremonial Great Hall, Trump’s address amounted to an extraordinary display of partisan politics and personal grievance inside an institution that is meant to be blind to both. Casting himself as the country’s “chief law enforcement officer,” a title ordinarily reserved for the attorney general, he promised to target his perceived enemies even as he claimed to be ending what he called the weaponization of the department.
The speech marked the latest manifestation of Trump’s unparalleled takeover of the department and came amid a brazen campaign of retribution already undertaken under his watch, including the firing of prosecutors who investigated him during the Biden administration and the scrutiny of thousands of FBI agents who investigated the president’s supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“Our predecessors turned this Department of Justice into the Department of Injustice. But I stand before you today to declare that those days are over, and they are never going to come back and never coming back,” Trump said to cheers from a crowd that included local law enforcement officials, political allies and FBI Director Kash Patel. “So now, as the chief law enforcement officer in our country, I will insist upon and demand full and complete accountability for the wrongs and abuses that have occurred.”
There's a lot to unpack here; including Trump's effective termination of the official independence of the Department of Justice, his direct identification of individuals in the DoJ he intends to target for reprisals, and the transformation of the department into his de facto private legal team by way of placing people who acted in his legal defense in positions of power throughout the DoJ. While this article still doesn't seem to grasp the full scope of Trump's fascist intentions here, I recommend reading it in its entirety anyway because it does a good job of not minimizing what he said and demonstrating a pattern of persecution in how Trump uses the law and the DoJ to target his enemies.
Additionally however, I think it's important to acknowledge how this story now fits into a larger, identifiable pattern in how Trump rules and how he's prosecuting his fascist agenda, in light of recent attempts to declare Biden's pardons invalid based on a longstanding right wing conspiracy about autopens and what "signing" a presidential order actually means. Whether we're talking about annexing Canada, mass deportations, kidnapping student protestors, or illegally handing over the power of the purse to Elon Musk, Trump appears to always preview his fascist activities by bringing them up, often casually, in his rambling public appearances first. This then establishes his personal antipathies as state antipathies, and his personal definition of reality as officially recognized reality. Once that is accomplished, the fascist administration will increasingly operate as if Trump's public utterances have always been known reality, and prosecute the regime's agenda based on that; "Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia" indeed. As such, it's no longer reasonable to question which of Trump's fascist ravings are "serious," but rather we must question when they will become "reality" and what fascist agendas they will ultimately support.

17.3.2025 21:23When this story broke a few days ago, I decided to skip covering Trump's shocking DoJ speech because I only have so much time to write...I'm not gonna lie folks; there's only 24 hours in a day, there's only one of me working on this, my health is kinda failing, and these goddamn nazis never shut the fuck up or stop doing awful nazi shit for more than an hour at a time. Whether our media establishment is incompetent, or complicit seems to change from day to day but either way, it's leaving a lot of important news to analyze, and I'm just trying to keep up. I wrote a bunch of stuff last night, and I'm just working "when I'm awake and capable of typing without blinding pain" so you might have to hit up my main timeline to find things I published at like 4AM Eastern and such.
As you'll eventually notice, I've also started threading related posts, specifically surrounding the abduction, detainment, and attempted deportation of Mahmoud Khalil by the Trump regime for constitutionally-protected protest activities, and that same "Trumpenreich" government's intentional violation of various judicial orders through some combination of playing stupid or daring anyone to try and hold them accountable. This has made it easier to share some brief analysis quickly without having to re-set the table every time on each new story, but I still haven't even touched Trump's revenge threats towards DoJ officials who tried to prosecute him during the Biden admin, the administration's war on Columbia, why it looks a lot like what Peter Thiel's fascist "in house philosopher" Curtis Yarvin posited as the steps required to restore a (objectively fascist) quasi-Monarchal dictatorship, why it serves as the beachhead of a fascist assault on what Yarvin calls "The Cathedral," and why a heavily-compensated, pro-genocide liberal establishment seems happy to help the nazis get away with it to punish anyone who wouldn't support Israel's genocide in Gaza or US material support that made it possible, or even the larger relationship between nazi cultist billionaires, fascism, and unfolding climate catastrophe; among many other topics.
I'm drowning here; I can't even keep up with breaking news let alone discuss the larger historical and theoretical context which is both so important to understanding what's going on as the Trump dictatorship takes shape, and also more or less absent from for profit media coverage of these events. Y'all are gonna have to be patient with me as I get around to week old stories, shorten some posts in favor of informing people that this or that awful thing happened, and replying very little to additional questions and commentary in my mentions because every keystroke I save there is one I can use to cover more of the atrocities going on around us and my health limitations means I start every day on borrowed time.
I'm trying kids; but this would be hard with a dozen of me, and I'm just the one lady with a library card and a pretty solid memory.
17.3.2025 20:17I'm not gonna lie folks; there's only 24 hours in a day, there's only one of me working on this, my health is kinda failing, and...While you certainly don't "have to hand it to the nazis," I must admit that it's way easier to show people that the Trump regime's attempts to target anti-genocide protestors using "War on Terror" logic will lead to them targeting all protestors using that same logic, when they just blurt that part out loud:
https://www.commondreams.org/news/deportation-protest
DHS Official Explicitly Equates Protest to Terrorism in 'Stunning' Interview
"The Trump administration has accused Khalil, who is of Palestinian descent, of leading "activities aligned to Hamas" and protests where pro-Hamas propaganda was distributed, but officials have provided no evidence that he's provided support to Hamas or other groups designated as terrorist organizations by the U.S. government.
A White House official this week told The Free Press that Khalil is not being accused of breaking any laws, but is rather "a threat to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States," and Edgar's comments to Martin offered further evidence evidence that DHS is working to deport Khalil without accusing him of a crime.
"He is coming in to basically be a student that is not going to be supporting terrorism," said Edgar. "So, the issue is he was let into the country on this visa. He has been promoting this antisemitism activity at the university. And at this point, the State Department has revoked his visa for supporting a terrorist type organization."
This story comes out of an interview with Troy Edgar (Trump's deputy homeland security secretary) by NPR's Michel Martin; thus it's important to note that while Edgar isn't making a legal argument here, he is absolutely working the court of public opinion to sway your perception about the legality of Trump's unlawful arrest, detainment, and ongoing attempts to deport a former Columbia University student green card holder, legally residing in the country with his wife (who is an American citizen), for protesting a genocide (by Israel) in Gaza, facilitated by both the current, and prior US administrations.
With that in mind, the first thing I'd like to point out is the bizarre, manipulative, and legally irrelevant language Edgar uses here. From a technical standpoint, the phrase "activities aligned with Hamas" is wholly unrelated to any law on the books in America, even our nightmare War on Terror era anti-terrorism laws, while simultaneously covering such a broad spectrum of activities that untold millions of Americans could potentially be "engaging in activities aligned with Hamas" - if for example, as in Khalil's case, you've advocated for ending Israel's genocide in Gaza, or the US government's arm shipments to Israel that make it possible, you've technically engaged in "activities aligned with Hamas," who also want the genocide and arms shipments to end. Does anyone, including Troy Edgar know what "a terrorist type organization" means? You won't find a single paragraph in US law that discusses prohibitions against supporting "a terrorist *type* organization" and this is really just a way for Edgar to say Khalil is working for "terrorists" without exposing himself to liability for false accusations; it's a poison phrase to turn public opinion against the accused, and in favor of the Trump administration's unlawful and quite frankly fascist actions. This is of course setting aside that Edgar, much like the rest of the Trump regime, continues to use the War on Terror legal language of "supporting a terrorist organization" (typically financially, materially, or logistically) to describe protesting a genocide; a stretch that also has no basis in American law that I'm aware of.
Additionally of course, there's the bombshell this article is mostly based around to consider; a US deputy homeland security secretary just went on public radio and argued that (legally nebulous) "pro-Palestine activity" and even just protesting in general, is terrorism. While many disingenuous bootlickers will try to parse Edgar's words here, he was given plenty of opportunities to answer questions about what "terrorist" activities the government was alleging Khalil engaged in, and Troy continually repeated the phrases "pro-Palestinian activity" and "protesting." Furthermore given that the entire Trump administration keeps making this "mistake" over and over again, it seems pretty reasonable to assume that at least from a propaganda perspective this is the regime's official position on supporting Palestinians and protesting in general.
Folks, can you think of any reason why an increasingly unpopular fascist administration presiding over the rapid impoverishment of the US labor class, and working with Israel to ethnically cleanse Gaza, would want to declare "pro-Palestinian activity" and "protesting" to be terrorist activity? Might it be because they expect a lot of Americans to start getting interested in Palestinians and protesting?

In the time since this was published, several more Democrats have come out to publicly oppose Khalil's unlawful abduction and imprisonment, but it's certainly nowhere near the majority of elected Democrats it should be, and many of these later statements have pathetically continued to conflate protesting against a US-backed genocide by Israel in Gaza, with antisemitism - thereby essentially helping to make Trump's emotional argument for him, while opposing only the legal grounds on which the fascist Trump regime claims to be acting.
17.3.2025 09:13And because I'm absolutely certain that some extremely low-information ActBlue donor is going to get upset at me for saying that last...This three minute video statement about the Trump Administration detaining and attempting to deport anti-genocide protestor Mahmoud Khalil by US Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) is several days old now, I have no interest in talking about voting or internal Democratic Party politics with you, and I have absolutely nothing nice to say about what I consider a collaborationist (with fascists) opposition in the U.S. federal government.
I'm sharing it simply because Murphy is displaying a shocking amount of frankness for a U.S. Senator speaking to the public, and he is absolutely correct; particularly when he points out that the Trump regime is illegally targeting Khalil precisely because he's the type of person politically unaware Americans will be unwilling to fight for, that allowing this assault on free speech will allow Trump to drastically expand the powers of the American (fascist) police state, and that if nobody stops this then literally anyone who doesn't agree with Trump could be next. Of course, what Murphy leaves out is that part of the reason Trump thinks he can get away with all of this is that the previous (Democrat) administration actively worked to portray anti-genocide student protestors and supporting professors as antisemitic criminals to justify unleashing the police on folks opposing a genocide in Gaza armed, funded, and politically protected by the Biden administration, but that doesn't make what Murphy does say any less true - even if very few members of a Democratic Party purporting to oppose Trump are willing to join him in saying them.

GOP Congressman Wants to Impeach Judge Behind 'Alien Enemies' Order Trump Defied
"In a post on X—the social media platform owned by Trump's billionaire adviser Elon Musk—Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) shared the New York Post's coverage of the Saturday court order and said, "I'll be filing articles of impeachment against activist Judge James Boasberg this week."
Gill's post garnered support from multiple other Republicans in the House of Representatives as well as Musk, who has endorsed GOP lawmakers' previous efforts to impeach other federal judges who have ruled against his and Trump's agenda.
Boasberg on Saturday issued a nationwide temporary restraining order in response to legal groups challenging Trump's attempt to use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 for deportations. The judge, who was appointed to the district court in Washington, D.C. by former President Barack Obama, ordered any planes in the air to turn around.
However, "the Trump administration says it ignored a Saturday court order to turn around two planeloads of alleged Venezuelan gang members because the flights were over international waters and therefore the ruling didn't apply," Axios reported Sunday, citing two senior officials.
While leading legal groups argue that Trump's attempted use of the law—previously invoked to send thousands of people to internment camps during World War II—is illegal, a senior White House official told Axios: "This is headed to the Supreme Court. And we're going to win."
So, what do you think is more likely? That a judge with no army, no police force, and no branch of government at his disposal can *force* Downmarket Mussolini to obey his orders, or, that a fascist party full of bootlicking sycophant nazis that is currently in control of the entire government, gets enough votes to impeach a judge for doing his job?
I know which one *I* think is more likely, but what I can't figure it out is why you "the law will prevail" folks seem to be getting the wrong answer despite all the evidence around you?
17.3.2025 03:49So uh, what stage of "it's not a Constitutional Crisis yet" is it when the ruling fascist party threatens to impeach the judge...I mean once you've violated dozens of court orders, what's one more? The Trump regime and Customs and Border Patrol just deported an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown Univeristy despite A) her having a valid visa, and B) a judge's direct order not to do so without telling him 48 hours in advance:
Brown professor, doctor deported despite federal judge’s orders
"After being held by customs officials at Boston Logan International Airport Thursday, Assistant Professor of Medicine Rasha Alawieh has been deported and is now in Lebanon, according to her relative Yara Chehab and court filings reviewed by The Herald.
The deportation took place despite a Friday order from U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin requiring 48 hours’ notice of Alawieh’s removal from Massachusetts.
Legal filings claim she was in possession of a valid H-1B visa that she recently received from the U.S. consulate in Beirut, The Herald previously reported."
A number of media outlets have been adamant about noting that Alawieh, a transplant surgeon who studied in the United States, hasn't been accused of a crime and doesn't have a criminal record, but really I think that's very much besides the point. As far as the Trump regime is concerned, being a brown person in the United States, even legally, is in and of itself a threat to public safety, or national security. It isn't, and has never been about "the law." Which, when coupled with the fact that the imperial presidency puts Trump in charge of pretty much every department that could hold him to account, is probably why he doesn't give a damn about the law or the judges who adjudicate it.

The Trump regime and Customs and Border Patrol just deported an...In what is undoubtedly yet another "unprecedented" shock to Very Serious PeopleTM insisting the courts will stop the fascist Trump regime, the government just shipped over 250 prisoners to El Salvador (a country not known for its boundless respect for human rights) despite a judge's order forbidding that:
US deports hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members despite court order
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp9yv1gnzyvo
"Trump announced on Saturday that he had signed a proclamation declaring that the Tren de Aragua gang was "conducting irregular warfare" against the US and he would deport its members under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.
That evening, US District Judge James Boasberg in Washington DC ordered a 14-day halt to deportations covered by Trump's proclamation, pending further legal arguments.
After lawyers told him that planes with deportees had already taken off, Judge Boasberg gave a verbal order for the flights to turn back, US media reported, although that directive did not form part of his written ruling.
The written notice appeared in the case docket at 19:25 EDT on Saturday (00:25 GMT on Sunday), the Reuters news agency reports, although it is unclear when the flights carrying the alleged gang members departed from the US.
A senior official in the Trump administration said their legal advisors had determined that the judge's order was invalid because the two planes were over international waters at the time, according to Axios, a political news outlet.
"They were already outside of US airspace," a senior administration official told Axios. "We believe the order is not applicable."
Look, it's not lost on me that most American observers are going to struggle to summon up any sympathy for alleged gang members; although I would like to remind you that given all the other false accusations the Trump regime has made against a variety of people we know are innocent of "supporting terrorism" or "threatening women by existing," you shouldn't be inclined to take Trump and his minions' word for it when they tell you someone is a "gang member" either. What's important here is that the Trump regime is once again openly flouting court orders that impede their fascist agenda regardless of the laws involved; this time by crassly pretending that they think a judge's order not to ship prisoners to El Salvador is no longer valid because the planes shipping them had left American airspace, as if the law were some kinda game of nazi Simon Says. Maybe you *don't* give a shit about alleged gang members, but if the Trumpenreich can ignore court orders and send these folks to a black hole in El Salvador anyway, they can ignore court orders preventing them from shipping me, you, or anyone you know to a torture box as well.

Trump's quest to conquer Canada is confusing everyone
"Speaking with reporters in the Oval Office, Trump first mentioned his love for Canadians, including his “many friends” like hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. Then he riffed about how Canada shouldn’t exist as a sovereign country before getting to what has increasingly become a fixation: wholesale annexation of Canada as a U.S. state.
"Canada only works as a state," Trump said Thursday. "We don’t need anything they have. As a state, it would be one of the great states anywhere. This would be the most incredible country, visually. If you look at a map, they drew an artificial line right through it, between Canada and the U.S. Just a straight, artificial line. Somebody did it a long time ago, many many decades ago. Makes no sense. It’s so perfect as a great and cherished state."
"But why should we subsidize another country for $200 billion?" Trump continued, adding, "And again, we don’t need their lumber, we don’t need their energy. We have more than they do. We don’t need anything. We don’t need their cars. I’d much rather make the cars here. And there’s not a thing that we need. Now, there will be a little disruption, but it won’t be very long. But they need us. We really don’t need them. And we have to do this. I’m sorry."
As I said at the top of this post, this is by no means a perfect article; NBC spends far too much ink focusing on Trump's personal animus towards Justin Trudeau (who is no longer even the Canadian Prime Minister) and allowing named GOP officials to pretend they're confused by Trump's annexation plan even as they enact his orders to try and make that plan a reality. Crucially however, this report *does* make it abundantly clear that Trump is dead serious and his minions know full well that he's not joking:
"Trump has been unapologetic in his quest to conquer the Canadians — an effort he said in January would be conducted by “economic force.” The result has been a disintegration of the relationship between the U.S. and one of its closest allies, and a stock market plunge over fears of ever-increasing escalation of a trade war. Both Canadian officials and Republicans initially thought the president was merely joking, ribbing Trudeau — a longtime foil — after they met at Mar-a-Lago in November. It was after that visit that Trump first publicly floated the notion of absorbing Canada. Few think he’s joking now, and the Canadians have stopped laughing.
A source with direct knowledge of the discussions told NBC News that Trump is heavily focused on Canada in conversations with aides, who believe he is completely serious about making the country the 51st state — even with Trudeau out of power and a new prime minister in place."
Unfortunately, and despite this refreshing frankness, I have some problems with the sloppy journalism and credulous naivety with which NBC states that nobody knows where Trump is getting the idea to annex Canada from, including Republicans in his government. The fact is that MAGA-connected fascist propagandists like Candice Owens (and others) have been advocating for taking over, or even invading Canada since at least 2021-2022 for a variety of reasons; including natural resources, water rights, climate imperialism (although they don't use that term,) and even to protect their ideological brethren in the larger Canadian fascist movement from legal repercussions for their own slow-moving coup attempt in Canada, the so-called "Trucker Convoy." I genuinely have no idea if US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has any clue what Trump is thinking, but fascist media personalities in Trump's orbit certainly do, and this regime has already shown a willingness to outsource official policy from raving nazi dipshits on YouTube, so I don't think "where Trump is getting this idea from" is the kind of puzzle you need Scotland Yard's finest detectives to solve.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/07/transgender-women-prison-trump
Trans women transferred to men’s prisons despite rulings against Trump’s order
"Transgender women incarcerated in the US prison system have been transferred to men’s facilities under Donald Trump’s executive order, despite multiple court rulings blocking the president’s policy, according to civil rights lawyers and accounts from behind bars.
Trump’s day-one “gender ideology” order, one of several sweeping attacks on trans rights, said the attorney general “shall ensure that males are not detained in women’s prisons or housed in women’s detention centers” and that no federal funds go to gender-affirming treatment or procedures for people in custody.
The executive order was quickly challenged in court. In three lawsuits filed on behalf of trans women housed in women’s prisons, federal judges have ruled that the US Bureau of Prisons (BOP) cannot withhold their medical treatment and was barred from moving them to men’s facilities. One judge said the plaintiffs had “straightforwardly demonstrated that irreparable harm will follow."
Lawyers fighting Trump’s directive say the court rulings prevented the transfers of 17 trans women who are plaintiffs in the cases, but others not included in the litigation are now facing placements in men’s facilities."
In case you're missing the shell game going on here, the Trump administration is pretending that only the 17 specific trans women mentioned in the cases to block this cruel fuckery are covered, while simply going ahead to target other trans women who are not specifically mentioned in the court orders. Not only is this an abnormal, malicious violation of the spirit of the judge's orders, but it's also literally straight up illegal:
"Prisons are required under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (Prea), a longstanding federal law, to screen incarcerated people for sexual assault risk and consider LGBTQ+ status when making housing decisions. Legal experts say Trump’s blanket policy of housing trans women in men’s facilities clearly violates Prea."
This is a hard story to read, because it demonstrates a pattern of pointless, wonton cruelty towards trans women by Trump's Bureau of Prisons; in addition to moving trans women to men only facilities that put them in very real danger, the BOP has also issued *orders* for guards to deadname prisoners and use incorrect pronouns, change their gender markers on official forms, deny requests for gender appropriate clothing, and to allow male guards to pat down trans women prisoners. Furthermore because this administration (and some would say, American society) hates trans women more than they like ice cream, nobody is making any effort here to prevent abuses that would seemingly go even beyond Trump's fascist executive order. There are already reports of male guards "groping" trans women prisoners, prison officials seizing the bras and underwear of trans women prisoners like they were contraband, threats to force detransition incarcerated trans women by denying their hormone therapy, and even one report of a woman who had gender-affirming surgeries before her incarceration, being moved to a men's prison. As one lawyer noted, this "is essentially sanctioning sexual assault in some instances."
Of course, given that trans people represent a microscopic minority inside the U.S. population, and 17 trans women are being protected by temporary restraining orders, only a small number of trans women are subject to what I'd describe as a form of psychological torture and the constant threat of violence; perhaps that's why the US political and media establishment in the "opposition" doesn't care, rather than their well established indifference towards trans lives, if not outright transphobia. I would however argue that the fact that the Trump administration is plowing ahead to target such a small number of trans women demonstrates that this isn't about safety or the rule of law; the cruelty is indeed the point, and a Trump regime that cares little about malnourished children, seniors living check to check on social security, or American workers, is clearly prepared to move heaven and earth to make existence so intolerable for trans women that they simply stop existing.

16.3.2025 19:16In a story that's not really making many waves in the US media because transphobia, transmisogyny, and hating incarcerated people are...Look, it's not lost on me that a lot of people don't want to hear what I'm saying in this infographic. Some of you will read the words "liberal establishment" and think I mean you, instead of the politicians you vote for, the for-profit media that (selectively) informs your opinions, and the rich people who own both of those groups. Some of you won't be ready to hear it because you're still operating under polite fictions that conceal what America really is, who it really works for, and how that work is actually accomplished. Finally, even some of you who acknowledge what I'm telling you, will insist that now is not the time for this discussion, and our entire focus must be on stopping Trump and the fascist America First movement so things can "go back to normal."
Frankly, I'm not really sure I can help the first two groups I mentioned at all, or at least in the short term. You folks clearly need to get yourselves a library card and start reading, with a particular focus on American history, class hierarchies in our society, and how capitalism actually functions. It's probably going to shock the shit out of you to learn that we are not a society of equals under the law and America doesn't really work the way your middle school civics class told you it did; I do not envy you the mental vertigo that's gonna cause, but I will say that it's better to understand how the world you live in actually works and how power is exercised, even if it's horrifying, than to keep pretending things are drastically better and more egalitarian than they actually are. Free market fundamentalism is not a humane ideology, capitalist extraction is facilitated by the threat and application of violence, and a "democracy" where rich people own everything, control our politicians, and dictate the laws we live under while existing far above them, is not actually "democratic" at all. Those are just the facts, and when you get done yelling at me because you don't want to believe that, I'll still be here waiting for you with open arms and a burning desire to make the better world you thought we lived in, a reality.
For those of you in the "now is not the time" camp however, I'd just like to ask you a simple question. Given that folks just like you and I have been having this same discussion since the Nixon administration, and "let's go back to normal" has won out every time in the larger public consciousness, how would you say that strategy is working out for us so far? As Americans, we went back to normal after Nixon, and ended up with Reagan, before we went back to normal and got the Bush-Cheney administration for our troubles, which in turn lead to another period of "going back to normal" before that normal handed a turnkey dictatorship to Trump, twice. All the while, the extraction never stopped, the imperialism never stopped, the police state only grew larger, corporate power and wealth inequality vastly increased, organized labor was decimated, our civil rights were eroded, and oligarchic power crept in to seize control of nearly every aspect of our lives anyone could possibly turn a profit from. You can't even really argue that going back to a liberal capitalist "normal" improved social equality, made our society more democratic, or halted the rise of fascism because we just watched a bunch of billionaires capitalize on the racist, patriarchal, and fundamentalist attitudes of seventy-five or so million of the worst people in America to install a bloviating reality TV show nazi as the de facto King of America. Are you seriously gonna tell me that a liberal capitalist "normal" that has resulted in the planet being on fire while billions of lives hang in the balance, politically empowered fascists seizing control of "democracies" all across the Pig Empire, and some k-head 4chan nazi controlling the political discourse of like half the planet, is working out for labor class people?
Whether you like it or not, the bipartisan fascist police state that protects oligarchs and projects corporate power, is the same fascist police state Trump is using to protect and install a fascist political order. The same racism, marginalization, and callous indifference to human life required to make capitalist extraction possible, is fueling popular support behind the rise of de facto fascist dictatorships in the Pig Empire. The same national security state created to fight an endless "war on terror" is now being used to hunt down and silence opposition to Trump's fascist agenda. The chickens have come home to roost, and an unholy union of capitalism, imperialism, and hierarchal class warfare that is all completely "normal" in our society, has given birth to the very same fascist monster that threatens to destroy everything labor class people care about today. Every time we listen to people who still want "a little" fascism and "go back to normal," the nazis lick their wounds for a while and then come back stronger.
Aren't you tired of "normal" yet?

He's very good on right wing extremism, the larger hate machine that is the American political right, and the fascist connective tissue that binds the two together. By that same measure he seems wholly unwilling to engage with the fact that fascism and fascist ideology has widespread bipartisan acceptance in official American life; for example, I recall him yelling at me for pointing out that both Republicans *and* Democrats built the fascist police state Trump is using to prosecute his reactionary agenda. I don't think he's a bad person, but I feel obligated to point out that while he's a fantastic researcher who has a pretty good handle on why the modern US right is fascist in nature, he's still a "liberal antifascist" and thus is rarely going to point out that America was already pretty fascist before Bush and Trump, for example. I still recommend reading his work about the Alt-Right and American fascism, but I advise you go into it with eyes wide open regarding the author's biases and why he's not going to lead you towards the systemic destruction of American fascism in *all* of its forms - which is a necessity, if we hope to actually beat the fash imho.)
