This has been driving me absolutely mental the last few days.

My iPhone isn’t retaining my Location and Privacy preferences. Every day it prompts me multiple times to give location access to my Apps. Even core ones like Maps and Weather (pictured).

Has anyone else come across this issue? How did you solve it?

Successfully upgraded to 4.3.0. The process was nearly seamless, but I got tripped up when I ran out of memory and my compile failed.

This post seems to identify the fix/workaround - https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/32329 - running 'npm run build:production' in the 'live' folder, then restarting all mastodon processes.

My poor little FTTN connection got hammered this morning when someone with a decent number of followers boosted a couple of my posts with photos. I only have about 1.5mbps upstream bandwidth available, and this was getting used up for the better part of an hour by other instances polling mine for the photos. My ping was in the region of 2300ms. I did not foresee this as being a problem, and I probably should have.

A few hours late for #MonDog in GMT+10. Harley’s recovery continues. We pushed the first leg of our walk out to nearly 1.8km this morning, so we could go to the cafe at the far end of the main street. We’re currently resting in Lions Park in the middle of Dayboro, getting ready for the return leg.

This weekend was my sons first birthday and wife chose “Wizard of Oz” as the party theme. This meant Harley got to dress up as the cowardly lion. He escorted our guests down the yellow brick road, and then proceeded to mooch food off of them. He had a huge day and overdid it a bit with three hours of walking around. He was VERY tired that night and needed extra physio the next day. But he had a great time (my son did as well).

One of our goals for Harley’s post-op recovery was to have him join us on walks to our local coffee shop, around 1.4km from our house. His maximum range over the past year has been two laps of our street, around 800m. Last week he managed to make it to coffee with us twice. Our walks are a little slower than they used to be, and the return home seems to take forever. But we’re happy to spend the time with him and to see him doing better.

@vkc Over the weekend I watched your video about *not* hosting your own mastodon instance. I was very enthusiastic about hosting my own instance, and even bought a raspberry pi to host it on. But I must say you’ve made me stop and think about whether it was the best way to go. I’m now considering mothballing it, and transferring back to one of the bigger instances in my region for the community and connectivity that would bring.

I've been trying to check a few long-standing tasks off my to-do list over the holiday break. #Repainting our front door has been a long time coming. The old paint was crazed and flaking badly and the timber beneath was at risk of rot. Last week I stripped the door back, removed any damaged wood, and sealed the vertically jointed sections against any more water ingress. It took a while for the silicon gap filler to go off, so after a few days I'm now finally able to paint!

Happy first #Mondog of 2023! This guy turned nine last week, and celebrated with a bath, a big bone and a sleep on the floor of my office. He had a tough 2022 starting with mobility issues, a diagnosis of intervertebral disc disease, major surgery and recovery. We’re looking forward to continuing his recovery in 2023, and getting him back to a point where he can go on short walks to the local cafe with us again. His name is Harley and he’s a good dog about half of the time.

Keeping these home servers on all the time made up around 20-25% of our daily baseline energy bill. Having them run on demand is saving us hundreds of dollars per year. Any "critical" services (like #homeassistant and #mastodon) have been moved off the high-energy hardware and onto a couple of low-power #raspberrypi's. What was a 24x7 250 watt power drain is now down to around 20 watts.

I've got a couple of #esphome powered HA Glow devices monitoring incoming energy, and using this information to calculate how much we're exporting back to the grid (not much 😬). We've been wanting to add a #battery or generator as a backup power supply. After a few long blackouts this past year, we wanted that security. Having an idea of how many amp's were pulling at any one time helps us plan for what size unit to buy.
