I finally pulled the hourly data off my smart power meter that was installed a little less than a year ago, and my power usage is waaay flatter than I expected.

Even on non-AC, non-heating days, there's a pretty regular constant 350+ watts consumed when everyone is asleep.

Time to survey the house with the kill-a-watt and find out what that is.

So I think most people agree that letting people do their own covid tests or pregnancy tests is a good thing. But now I can't buy Strep...

So I think most people agree that letting people do their own covid tests or pregnancy tests is a good thing. But now I can't buy Strep A rapid tests without a medical license? Like what's the rationale? They're as easy to use as a covid test. A doctor is gonna re-run any test (strep or covid or pregnancy) anyway before perscribing something. Just let me have my < $1 test! (cause the clinic charges at least $70 for the same test!)

My experimentations with Hugo have improved. Used the default template and it all worked. Tried to add a shortcode to add two column content to my index page. I did get it working and learned a ton in the process.

It’s a pretty heavy tool- there is a lot to learn and in some ways it’s harder than just making a site from scratch in css and html. I see light at the end of the tunnel though.

First experiment with Hugo wasn't too good. First template I picked doesn't work, eventually found a github issues page with half a dozen people also unable to use it. Second hugo theme was missing an installation step (found the fix on an old closed github issue). Then it required go and npm, where it installed 480 packages (!) warned me that the module wasn't compatible with the latest Hugo version, then after 7000 ms of build time, it failed to render the "taxonomy".
