Like making a photo tagging system, and having white people over-represented in the category "human", and ending up with some photos of black people being tagged as "gorillas".

Or your hiring or college admission system going "women are less likely to be accepted, so let's not accept any of them at all." (excuse the anthromorphisation...)

I know of two examples in image recognition_- "We tried to teach it to detect skin cancer, but it turns out it detected rulers" -...

- "We tried to teach it to detect skin cancer, but it turns out it detected rulers" - because the example photos of positives were provided by dermatologists and included a ruler for scale.

- "We tried to teach it to tell apart wolves anddogs. It taught itself to recognise images including snow" - because the sample images of wolves included snow.

Analytical machine learning is much more likely to be useful than the current crop of hyped "AI"s, but there's still a danger...

Also, stuff goes wrong because of the training data.

Saturday I forgot adding the stuff from the laundry box in the living/bedroom to the washing machine, so I ran a small load...

Saturday I forgot adding the stuff from the laundry box in the living/bedroom to the washing machine, so I ran a small load today.
Saturday'S laundry is put away, and today's hung to dry.
Also put away the dishes that have been drying since yesterday. I should wash more so there's nothing cluttering up thebit of counter between stove and sink, but I'm not feeling it. Maybe I'll just stack it all, that would be an improvement.
