I think I settled on a party to vote for, but can anyone tell me why I should care about the digital euro? How is it different from banning transaction fees up to some amount within the EU for instance?

I read through https://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/digital_euro/faqs/html/ecb.faq_digital_euro.en.html but it does not really seem to go into this. It keeps making claims about it allowing for digital payments, but most of my payments are already digital as far as I’m concerned.
