This post is seemingly about conferences and in but it’s actually about more than that. It’s about how we are being let down by leadership at all levels in academe and how no equity and inclusion can happen when we keep valuing exclusion and status quo. We deserve to hear from different voices- the exact voices most spaces will never fight for. allthingspedagogical.blogspot.

Episode 19 of Accessagogy is up, with an episode on Accessible Group Work. I provide four ways to think about group work design to help support inclusion, but also end with hopeful possibilities for thinking of assessments (and community building) in a more sustainable way. I super love (sarcastic tone) how when you sign up for AxeCon from a new email (say you switched jobs or something) Deque now non stop harasses you to fill out some sort of profile that also includes a mandatory section where you have to make up some number of how much money the company you work for has, like we even know this information. Why is everything getting worse instead of better? Sigh I used to like AxeCon

Honestly if you want people to submit to your conference why are you making the instructions so difficult and lengthy? I should not need to take a few days just to parse what it is that you are asking for your conference. I honestly wish things would be getting better in with this, but it’s only getting worse. I keep trying to give associations second and third chances, but at some point it’s very clear that no conversations are happening during planning.
