3.3.2025 21:49Oof, just realised I use Firefox Focus as well as regular on mobile. Need to replace that too with a new no-history browser. The first step in my journey away from Firefox was turning off some sync options. The next is deleting the Mozilla account.
The leading candidate for replacement is Gnome Web / Epiphany, if I can get extensions working properly.
Tragic end for Firefox, but breaking a core promise is unforgivable.

It's not free though, it wants to mine my code and learn it. It makes me the product, not the consumer/customer. Making it free makes me even less likely to use it.

I'm looking to take on new contracts, splitting it out as fractional in 2025. With a UK base, I can slot into EU or US timezones easily enough.
Anybody know of any sites that specialise in this sort of work, or anyone that might benefit from adding a head to their team in the new year? DM me please.
Figured I'd give this a go here, the usual social media channels have changed beyond all recognition since I last went looking for new clients.

31.10.2024 14:54TIL that Markdown syntax works in Google Docs.I've just come across a Markdown editor that won't open anything other than .md files. It ignores .markdown and all other forms of plain text. I'm shocked, it looked quite good otherwise.

It always ends in a blog that never gets updated (nearly a year counts as abandoned). Blame the tool or blame the author?
I'm not the only one in the house to give up on it either.
Recommendations for something self-hosted that's better? I'm feeling a draw towards running a wiki rather than a chronological timeline.

OR is it just a completely stupid idea to allow an iPad to remotely control my desktop machine.... I have a couple of Elgato lights and they don't look like the most robust of APIs...
Still, it looks too useful to ignore.

Everything has to be watertight from the instant it's online, no exceptions and no opportunity to test & fix before the probing starts. One of the downsides to certificate transparency is broadcasting the creation new things to the world.

Are there any serviceable Alexa/Siri/Cortana type voice recognition applications that are purely localhost?
I'd be fun to say "Computer, lights"...

Naturally, it's semi-permanent on skin and doesn't wash off.

Who is good to follow here? Do you do follow friday?
Linux desktop users, are there any good native clients or do you keep it simple and use web browsers?
And finally, are there any unwritten rules here that I should be aware of before I get too comfortable? 😀
