Provar que quem tem mais do que precisa ter
Quase sempre se convence que não tem o bastante
Fala demais por não ter nada a dizer"

Size is not everything but it surely helps.
23.3.2025 19:57Size is not everything but it surely helps.Thankfully, the new cooler includes an Intel backplate for some reason, so I ended up chopping it up to get the nuts and mixing it with the Noctua backplate for structural support.
It's not my finest work, but it's in there solid, and at no extra cost (except my sanity).
Back again.
Of course it would be too easy if everything went according to the plan.
So, when I built this server, I bought the MB, CPU and RAM second-hand, as a bundle. It came with a low-profile 90mm AM4 Noctua fan, which worked well until it didn't.
What I didn't know is that this Noctua fan requires removing the MB's own backplate, and the seller didn't send any extra hardware.
The new fan expects your MB to have this backplate, and that's where I had to get a little "creative"...
Server going down again in a bit. Time to replace the 90mm low-profile fan/heatsink that came with it and was "good enough" with a proper 120mm dual-fan tower cooler.

Note to self: monitor temperatures and/or fan RPM.
We're back, at least for now.
Holy fuck, if it wasn't for this array failure the whole server could have died. The CPU fan was completely locked, hard to spin even by hand. The server was a little dusty, sure, but nothing to justify this kind of failure.
And it's not even a crappy one, it's from Noctua.
Btw the timing for that backup account was not a coincidence: I'll need to power down this server for NaN hours to deal with a potential backplane/cable/HBA issue (who knows?!).
See you all on the other side.
Pretty cool that if you have two Mastodon accounts and reference each other from their profile pages they automatically show as verified.

Thanks @selea for having me!
I wonder if I should go with a Misskey server instead of Mastodon for the backup, "all eggs in the same basket" and all that.

If you have previously used the dnsmasq workaround to have multiple conditional forwarders in PiHole, this feature is now directly supported in the UI, but the caveat is that the old workaround no longer works, you need to move it from the .conf files to the UI. #PiHole #DNS #SelfHosted

My brother in Hades, it's a reverse proxy controlled by a 3rd-party. You are willingly sending your data in plain text to their service, which is provided "free of charge" (the price is your privacy), based solely on the assumption they're going to be nice and never do anything you don't like.
I'd expect by now everyone would be able to see these red flags from miles away...
