It's not just me that sees a piece of code in a TV show and immediately goes on a mission through GitHub to find what repo they took it from, right? Funny legal sidequestion: should code in TV shows include license disclaimers if it comes from a repo that is GPL/Apache2?

foi politics, ai, venting

That's it, I officially hate this timeline.
You would expect that someone dealing with official FOI requests would at least try to understand what someone is requesting, when dealing with a request. Instead, it appears Iarnród Éireann has decided to have a fucking AI write the reasoning for not giving away public keys they use to sign tickets. The reasoning just reads like the worst AI slop I have read. The need to revoke keys is not relevant in the context of an FOI request. The organizational metadata and user identities are FOIable just as the key is and what the actual fuck is the last one. The key is only used in their ticket issuing system, not to create TLS sessions multiple 100 times per second.

This all gets better, because Ireland imposes fees for requesting an internal and ICO review, meaning I now have to pay to have someone review this (30 EUR for internal review and then 50 EUR for ICO). And as far as I can tell, I don't get that money back even if I am granted the complaint. (please correct me if I am wrong, this is my first Irish FOI case)

I don't think @q and I had "joining the UIC ticket user group" as one of the outcomes when starting work on vdv-pkpass, well, it happened today after a very anxious presentation of our work. And somehow @q already got added to one of the ASN.1 subgroups.

I guess this is a good message to everyone else interested in obscure standards: Try getting in touch with people that are working on them, they might not be as bad as you think. Worst they can do is say "Get lost".

We are now working on adding Slovenian Railways ticket support into VDV-PKPass, glad to finally share some of the research we made (and hopefully we get the official spec soon, the ICO FOI complaint is currently the longest running in the history of the Slovenian ICO I think, due to us getting an expert witness)
If you have any tickets you are willing to share (dw, afaik they never contain names or other personal data), we would be glad to accept them.

So, looking through the Android Carrier ID list I found something funny: It appears there is probably an MVNO that operates on Bell and Telus Canada, T-Mobile US and 3 Austria with an emoji carrier name in Android. The carrier name is a Gemini sign emoji. Anyone got any info on them?
