The nightmare inducing mechanism of Road Show pin remake continues. The last piece of the CAD design puzzle is the eyelid mechanism. If this goes how I want it to go, it'll be gear driven like the eyes. I considered reusing the actual part, but so many pins where it's broken, so might as well provide everything to make these two knuckleheads live again.

28.3.2025 01:56It's little dumbass' lap time!#cats #catsofmastodonI shall call him... Mini Servo!
I originally printed a soda can sized Crow T Robot as the prototype before going for the 1:2 scale one.
Now the mini Crow gets a mini Tom Servo as a friend so they can hang out together on top of the arcade's network rack.

Centaur's captive ball escaped its captivity.
27.3.2025 22:59Okay, how did this happen?!Centaur's captive ball escaped its captivity. #pinball #stuckballFirst up was Rudy's lip. This part has been pretty systematically broken in all the Funhouse pins I've dealt with and it appears not to have been an exception here.
I n00bed away with the boolean modifiers option, removing a cube shaped area from the damaged spot, then added an approximate shape where his upper lip should be and then tried to smooth that in with the sculpting tools.
Here's before and after.

This scan is of the face plate that was seriously damaged, with several cracks and dents in it. My #blender skills are bit lacking, but this seems to be a good project to start learning it, I come from 3DS Max and Maya.
My obvious favorite in Blender is the sculpt tool that I had not gotten to use before. That'll seriously help with a cleanup project like this.
This Rudy will eventually end up on my office wall with the fully functional eye/jaw mechanism and some software magic to make it look at passing by people.

27.3.2025 02:17I learned the hard way that the glow in the dark filament will destroy a brass nozzle very quickly.Hmm, another nozzle bites the dust.
But all in all, this Snapmaker A350 has been extremely reliable in the long run. About 5 years (it's that early one!), 2 heater elements and many nozzles worn out.

This one's in Bally Star Trek.

Next up: the eyelids themselves. That's probably the most challenging single part because of the shape and space constrains.

This one added the eyelid servo, which was bit of a tight fit with the jaw...I modelled the whole enclosure for the face mechanism, the in-game version is made of sheet metal, but this one will probably work fine for my wall mounted ornamental version of the thing.
I really need to look into FreeCAD's sheet metal workbench thing, this wouldn't probably be too hard to do out of metal after some lasering.
I also really need to learn the Assembly workbench that came with the 1.0. There's so many mechanical things I'd need to try out before printing.

I'm gonna put these into built from scratch Red's head that's going to my office wall.

I'm not looking for a freebie, just something that isn't enshittified to the max.

For those unfamiliar with Road Show's inner workings, this reduction gear + sector gear combo moves Red's and Ted's mouths. These gears get yanked back when the characters get hit by a ball in the chin and the result is often missing teeth in these gears.
But now they're recreated and freely available for 3D printing.

The new eyeballs had finished printing overnight and this time I used all-white filament and painted them so poor Red would look less like the Devil himself had possessed her.
Naturally the intended cuteness turned to yet another freak show when servo limits were way off in the software. After some adjustments the demo that moves the eyes at different speeds seems to work nicely.
The second servo will be part of the same bracket and the eye lids will be driven in the same manner as the eyes.
I'm also toying with the idea of building an extra Red from scratch to be included my hall of fame of pinball part prototypes on my office wall.

I've already released one part of this mechanism, now I'm making the next one that tends to break. This moves Red's and Ted's jaw. Rudy in Funhouse has similar part.
I've made the gear wider since there's room.
