Yes, it was an obvious joke.

Some of the sets from Dark City were reused for The Matrix, however. The openings might feel familiar, too.

If anyone has never seen Dark City then I suggest the Director's Cut. The theatrical version starts with a text crawl that gives too much of the plot away too soon.

I tried going to the locally owned record store on Saturday, but they were hosting a South by Southwest concert. There was nowhere to park. The place was overflowing with people jammed body to body.

At my best, I am sympathetic to anyone else who is experiencing anything of the same. I'm currently wavering between heartbroken and outright angry that this new prejudice is pointed at old friends who have helped me heal, at new friends, and toward friends I'll never meet.

I owe an eternal debt to the LBGTQ+ circles that accepted me, even as I was only on the fringes of their groups. I definitely owe an unpayable debt to the friends who reached out in my younger years.

When I was 13/14, I was a long haired, quiet, effeminate boy. I'm deaf in one ear, which meant hearing the world at half volume, which meant "normal" for me was to speak at half volume. Everyone else seemed to be speaking that quietly.

I endured slurs and harassment and irregular beatings until someone finally shattered a bone in my foot.

It led to a lifetime of physical pain, plus a lifetime of healing from shame over my own body.

I want better for everyone.
