I always hear about people keeping hundreds of tabs open, but I really like when I've been working on some code for a while and I have like 14 tabs open and I want to stop and do something else, so I just close the window and watch all the tabs disappear. It's such a like... "clearing my brain" / "cleaning shit up" kind of good feeling. Like I know whenever I start coding again, I'm gonna start with a fresh slate you know?

I feel like this United Federation of Instances thing is gonna get some of attention over the next few hours/days, but I'm predicting it's not going to change anything for mastodon at all besides maybe other instances starting their own versions. It's not like anything like this will ever catch on with any significant number of instances for it to be anything other than a small group promising not to defederate from each other.

But all of this was supposed to be the point of ActivityPub anyway. Mastodon should have never gotten as popular as it has (in relation to other ActivityPub projects), and Eugen/.social should have never had this much influence over the whole network. Shitty decisions by people who are ignorant of Black people/issues shouldn't be able to have this much of an effect on us.

But expecting people like Eugen and services like mastodon.social to get things right for Black people CLEARLY ain't it.

We should stop expecting services that other (non-Black) people have created to treat us like we deserve to be treated, because it's already been proven that it doesn't work like that.
