The lure of commercial tech is insidious, almost terrifying if you look directly at it. I am a devout FOSS user. I own a Linux laptop made by a company that makes only Linux PCs, and I have installed Arch to prove to myself that I could.

And yet, since I got a new smartphone this week, I haven't been able to stop touching it, taking pictures and videos with it, and installing apps I have no business using. I've been installing mobile games, which, as a general rule, I hate.

But this phone sure is shiny.
