So. I thought I'd take a moment to talk about a thing I first started working on back in, hmmm, 2015 or so. It's pmml, the practical #music #macro #language, developed by Satoshi Nishimura. It compiles a c-like language to #midi format. I wanted it to work on both 32 and 64-bit systems, so I sat down to work on it. You can see the results of that, and see how I got from here to there, by checking out this github repo. https://github.com/arfy8820/pmml. Let's just say, I learnt a lot! about struct/union padding, and memory layouts between 32 and 64-bit machines. Even so, it still doesn't work on windows 64-bit, but it does work on #Mac OS, #linux and #FreeBSD. #C #programming

I'd love to know what the history of keysoft was, particularly in the early days, and what the machines were called. I do remember the first keynote machine, it was a squareish shape, with a built-in receipt-style printer. It seemed to be running on version 1.1. I beleive it might have been called the keynote XL? I then had a keynote pc plus, which ran keysoft 1.1 from the factory, but came with the upgrade to keysoft 1.23. It seems that keysoft 2 was for the keynote companion series, and keysoft 3 and onwards was the braillenote. Anybody else remember these machines/software? #accessibility #A11Y

However, I just was able to access your tapes archive, for now. However, have you thought about hosting the archive somewhere else if the rumers turn out to be true?

Some thoughts about Screen Readers and how they've come and gone. Because of how I was restricted to using demo versions of screen readers for quite some time, I ended up, almost by necessity, becoming familiar with just about everything out there. Jaws, my primary for many years, Window-eyes, dolphin hal/supernova, system access, NVDA, and even some forgotten ones like window bridge. Much as I tried to, I really just couldn't quite get to grips with window-eyes, however, I always had a lot of respect for what they were doing, and how they tried to not get in the way of apps, unlike *cough cough* jaws. Ever tried using a gameboy emulator with jaws running, and press the cursor keys to press the emulated gameboy d-pad? Yeah. Anyway, my point to all this is to say that its sad to think that out of all those screen readers, we're now down to three. Jaws, NVDA, and dolphin. And out of those, I haven't touched jaws, or dolphin for quite some time. Also. Just for my own curiosity, I'd love to know what the last versions of screen readers to run under Win9X/ME would be. For window-eyes, I think it's 6.1. What about jaws? Dolphin? #Blind #A11Y #accessibility

I forgot to update yesterday, but I'm happy to say my ear is now fully unblocked and back to normal! It was a weird sensation and sound as the syringe was removed, after pumping water in there, and there was this awesome crackling noise and all the sound returning as the wax came out. I had to rebalance once I stood up, though.

I can definitely feel stuff moving in there, wanting to come out. Hopefully the drops have done their job and the wax isn't too hard. Hearing is still mostly good, although now if the wax moves wrong it blocks again. But hopefully that's a good sign.

After only one night of drops, and some deep cleaning in the shower, the ear is much, much closer to normality again! Will be interesting to have them both flushed on Monday and see what highs I get back overall.

I've been having a slightly blocked left ear since, hmm, Sunday or Monday, and its usually cleared up by now, however, yesterday it got stuck in let's filter the world mode. Decided to visit the docs today, and he confirmed that its a buildup of wax that's gone hard. Something that doesn't usually happen much to me. I now have drops to take, and getting the syringe on Monday. Oh boy.

Question for the #electronics and #synthesizer geeks. I have a #Yamaha MU2000 #midi synth. Over time, its been getting more and more flakey to boot propperly. As time progressed, if the unit had been powered off, it would take longer to boot propperly, however, the unit was receiving power. The screen would light up, and audio would be passed through the line-in jacks. However, the midi part of the synth was a no go. It would, however, come to life after some time. However now, it just won't boot at all. Would this be a symptom of leaking CR2032 batteries, or capacitors, corroding the board and weakening contacts?

Over at #birdsite, they first said free api access was going away on the 9th of February. Then, they came back and said the 13th. The 13th came and went, and then they said, changes would be phased in over the next couple of weeks. I'm going to be rather bemused if the API access, doesn't, in fact, go away, and its just left hanging around. After all of the other clients went bye bye, it would be weird if little ol TweeseCake and TwBlue were able to retain access. I don't think it'll go that way, but I kinda wish they could just figure out what's going on over there and just pull the plug. The waiting is getting boring.

Its a youtube channel dedicated to #preservation of mostly New Zealand and Australian radio. They recently announced that they've been hard at work, digitizing over 750 #VHS #tapes, and over 1500 #cassettes. Wow! I can't even begin to imagine what 1500 cassettes would look like! I had about 100 when I was younger, but 1500? *head explodes*. Here's the link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClKbJxBkh40Kn_9gRARSFag #Australia #NZ #Radio

When hitting reply on a boosted post, the reply appears to go to the original author of the post. Assuming this is the prefered way of doing things in mastodon, but could an option be included to at least include the booster of the post in the reply, or, to just reply to the booster?

hi @app I have a technical question. What library are you using for mastodon support at this time? I'm definitely curious. I'm also playing a bit with the toot client on my mac.
