#EVEOnline story of the day : unproductive day stealing frat, but we got a new player in one of the transit wormholes we were using. As usual in J-Space you shoot first and ask questions later. We saw they were brand new to the game and as per our corp rules reimburse new players losses (we even got them quite the tip to get them rolling, 10m ). THAT, people, is how you make people stay: give them some help, and DM them "welcome to EVE" unironically

Seriously y'all eve players: if you nuke a new player and you know they're new from their way of acting/fit etc. Please contact them and get them some compensation. 10m is nothing to you veteran, but remember new players deal with less than a mil in their wallets and basic corvettes!

We're a small Alliance of queer capsuleers, which is very rare in this galaxy. The plan was to have a small (cheap) fleet and go steal incels/brodudes/nazi corporations banks.

Some systems have space stations that print money. We steal that

So here we start, we start exploring and see the amounts are not that high until we find a juicy juicy target. Bear in mind we're 8-10 people in dirt cheap spaceships. We start hacking the bank and a Vargur appears. Those are huge blingy ships that can totally tank our whole fleet and get us one by one if well played. We start approaching at a diagonal (trying to avoid the shells coming towards us). Bam first volley, one of us gets one shot. Bam second volley, one is nearly dead. Bam, they are dead. In the meantime we closed the gap. We start orbiting and would you know, their sniper fit (equipment) had NO TANK stuff. It MELTED. We took a bit to try and understand what happened... We still don't understand the logic. We finish the steal, loot the wreck and go ahead. Our killed friends are making their way back towards us.

On the way we talk a bit with the guy we nuked and even tho his corp is very 4chan-esque and affiliated with some of the worst incels... Dude is pretty chill. He looks at our corporation bio (where we openly say we're queer feminine tho not exclusively so (it's still the majority of the members)) and ask if it's a troll. We say not at all and dude actually shows some support "good luck with frat..." (Frat is the biggest incel bs corp I know of)

We all reach another jucy bank. This time there's a tiny exploration ship around us. Our official diplomatic incident generator (aka our fleet commander) starts taunting. We even destroy the money in front of them instead of taking it and leaving it. Dude gets angry and comes back with... A Vargur. This time we think we're toast.

Nope dude must've been raging or something because he fucked up his play BAAAD. Again... Melted... And remember our whole fleet costs half his ship. Again we loot hack and this time we go home.

Nice fleet evening, but wow how can 4 Drakes a couple logi and 2 rando ships get two Vargur kills...

We got Bambie and Nemo who were the absolute cutest persons ever Between Bambie cheering everyone and being a beacon of joy and support, also hugging losers in the qualifiers and spreading love like Nutella and Nemo being a beautiful beacon of love, but shredding the EBU like Doomguy shreds demons in the press conference

Lastly I liked Bambie Thug's perf way more than Nemo, but their style is not ideal for the contest. How come the one with the pentagrams and the candles and everything is actually the cute and loving one

Nemo is just not my jam but their skills are evident.

I highly recommend watching both perfs, they're awesome!

People told me there were a lot of Half Life OST vibes, I thing it would suite an HL2 mod indeed, tho it wasn't at all where I was going at the start. I love the piano from Everything from Loreen, so I set up to make something in the same sorta vibe, but going along it ended up way much more electro than poppy ​

Bitwig 5 on NixOS is defo a prod ready env. Not a single crash, my sound interface never once crapped her pants (even when dropping the block size to 64), everything was smooth sailing. I must say I didn't use any external VST, I still have to prep a generic derivation to add windows ones easily.

He's learning the basics. Does anyone have ENGAGING exercises to suggest. We've made a Conway's game of life and rn he's working on a tic tac toe with an AI that will either beat to draw any game. He has not started on OOP.

I want him to train his thinking on data types and what a function truly is ; do you have a fun project that would help him on that without introducing oop concepts ?

They are a pita to deal with. but I found a solution I think...

Their bots don't even put a proper useragent and OF COURSE they don't follow robots.txt (because they don't care about people's privacy and are a good bunch of assholes). So while they respond to my mail I've gathered all my sysadmin powers to still find a way to ban their crawlers. AND HERE IT IS!!

Step 0 : When I say edit this file : DO A COPY FIRST, depending on your include rule in nginx, move the copy outside of /etc/nginx ! ​

Soooo first of :
we need a local dns cache to prevent spamming and to make it quick so let's configure resolved (tutorial here) : https://geekflare.com/linux-server-local-dns-caching/

Then we need to compile an nginx module because we need to do a reverse lookup on the clients IPs as, from my digging, all their crawlers do have PTR record ending by archive.org. SOooooo get that on your server : https://github.com/flant/nginx-http-rdns
and follow this answer : https://stackoverflow.com/a/59993747 to install it.

NOW WE'RE TALKING 😈​ ​

At the top of your /etc/nginx/nginx.conf you need to enable the module you compiled. Add as the first line

load_module modules/ngx_http_rdns_module.so;

then at the top of your http block add

resolver 127.0.0.53;
rdns_deny (.*)archive\.org;

That's your global setup for the whole of your nginx routing, you can move it to a server block if you prefer.

Now go to your /etc/nginx/sites-available/glitch.nginx (or where ever you set your config for glitch/masto)

We can't put our stuff in the server block sadly because of redirection loops that get fucked up ​ so we'll put a line

rdns on;

at the top of those location blocks

• /
• ~ ^/(emoji|packs|system/accounts/avatars|system/media_attachments/files)
• /sw.js
• /api/v1/streaming

we can't put it in @proxy again, because of loops ​

Anyway now you can run nginx -t, check everything is fine and do systemctl restart nginx (I use systemd and I like it, you might have your opinion against it I do not care ​ )

Now check on an app AND the web ui that everything is fine!

now go test on archive.org that everything is blocked properly ​

If you have a way to make it better, or if you found out it doesn't work properly, feel free to comment, I wanna make it work as well as possible

btw eventhough the module is not maintained anymore it will work on nginx 1.18.0

I tested many different things, relied on old info from when archive.org still respected robots.txt and had a proper useragent etc. I'm working on it since 8pm (it's 3 now. . .) and I'm pretty angry I had to rely on a janky solution for something so basic as my own privacy. . .
