In good news, for the first time in a long while I took my phone out of its case and cleaned both.
In other good news they now both have a faint coffee smell. #dadlife
12 days after my second child is born, who would've guessed this would happen?
1.1.2024 23:0312 days after my second child is born, who would've guessed this would happen?Yesterday a thing happened, aside from my Christmas holiday starting. Specifically, Rigel here was born and is going to be improving the lives of my wife and I, as well as his big sister.
I do wonder if this will mean I'll be posting more here while I'm nap-trapped (like right now) out less because I'm asleep deprived (again, like right now). Either way, it's a great way to end the year.
Start of the week: this should be a pretty quiet week workwise, so I can keep an eye on all things #reinvent2023.
End of the week: this week was insane, wait wasn’t re:Invent on as well?
#AWS released #PartyRock overnight and as an #awscommunitybuilder I got early access so have had the chance to play around with it over the last couple of days. In short. it's an enormous amount of fun and I highly recommend everyone to play around with it. My full thoughts and some of the apps I built are mentioned in this post:

I guess it's a good thing I hadn't gotten around to updating my Go Lambdas to use the now old custom runtime and can upgrade them straight to the new custom runtime. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/compute/introducing-the-amazon-linux-2023-runtime-for-aws-lambda/

1.8.2023 23:49At the keynote of the #AWS Cloud Day Melbourne right now. Come say hi if you see me (after the keynote obviously). My study plan for the #AWS SA Pro renewal I did yesterday:
1. Ignore all the emails about the renewal coming up
2. Suddenly realise it will expire in less than 2 weeks and not doing it is more work as it means I'll have to renew the associate separately
3. Book the exam for the next Tuesday
4. Forget about it again
5. Check the A Cloud Guru course on Sunday
6. Watch the new and updated videos at 2x over a period of a couple hours
7. Trust that my ego is right and I can do it
8. Pass the exam
The studio is now basically complete. Only things left are someone hooking up the aircon to power (because that needed someone specific 🤷♂️) and cleanup. The latter is scheduled for Saturday. Then on Sunday I'll move in a single desk and chair so I can inaugurate it on Tuesday by renewing my SA Pro cert from there, before moving everything else in.

The outside looks mostly finished and the isolation material is in. Next up is the electrical work and plastering, which probably won't be as visually interesting.

It should be completely done in 2 weeks or so, after which it's a matter of moving desks and everything else I need in there.

TIL: Adding new entries to a prefix list while increasing the number of entries is impossible in a single CloudFormation deployment. When you do, you get a wonderful message telling you to do it in two steps because the underlying service can't be bothered doing that for you.

I didn't expect that. https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2023/06/amazon-ec2-m7a-instances-preview/

From the cockpit of your favourite driver while being able to freely look around sounds to me like an amazing experience.

Asking ChatGPT gives horribly wrong results, so I figured I'd put the correct ones in a single place for you. There's a full article with my commentary about the sometimes terrible naming, or you can download an easy cheatsheet. Find it all at https://ig.nore.me/2023/05/ec2-instance-naming-explained/

This Thursday (aka tomorrow), I'll be speaking at the #golang meetup again! It feels like years since I last did so, probably because it's been years 🤔. I'll be talking about my go-output library that I use to make my various #aws related CLI tools look good and be able to create diagrams.
If you're interested to come along (and heckle/give constructive feedback), you can RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/golang-mel/events/292204325/ https://www.meetup.com/golang-mel/events/292204325/
