Wondering how game theorists and essayists handle saves for games with multiple routes, branching paths and cases that require lots of decision making.

Not being one by all means, but isn't it a perfect case for using version control systems like Git? At least that's what I do whenever I feel like playing with distinct styles or self-imposed challenges.
