It's been a while since I did any #gamedev updates. I've been working on this on-and-off over Christmas and New Year.I have managed...

It's been a while since I did any #gamedev updates. I've been working on this on-and-off over Christmas and New Year.

I have managed to find some more #pico8 tokens spare to update the radar. Now it indicates distance (in multiple ways) and angle.

All that's really left are the final cutscenes, then maybe some level tweaks.

I have four endings planned, and I feel the story I need to tell with these is important, and I want to take my time with them and do them justice.

Thankfully I've been able to squeeze quite a bit of content into this game regardless.

I'm actually surprised how much I could fit into a single cart.

Problem is I'm probably going to have to multi-cart for just the title screen. But it's something.

So far I've only done optional quests that give character buffs.

I think I'll work on the ending logic and placement of the final boss next, just to say the game is 'completable'

Then spend Thursday on Music and SFX

Pro tip for anyone doing a Jam though: Once you get your basic gameplay in. Work backwards from the end of your game to the start.

That way you can always claim a finished game by the end of the jam.

Here we have world map manoeuvring, screen transitioning and entity spawning. With the final boss enemy being the first entity created.

Now with a reworked palette, so the foreground and background don't clash as much.

The UFO enemies are tough as nails, hit like bricks and, while by this point in the game you shouldn't only have one heart, dodging them all should be possible.

Plus, killing them is guaranteed to drop a coin of some kind.
