Site will be back, I'm not banned by argo (that's just the #cloudflare tunnel complaining that can't find the #dead #panda), I'm surviving and just trying to catch up with everything after not being home for so long.

... Except it didn't autostart. Fine, that's happened before. Had a family member try to turn it on... and it wouldn't POST at all. Multiple attempts later with different power supplies, I figured I'd just deal with it when I got home. Probably something simple we were both overlooking.

12 weeks later, I also was unable to resurrect the panda.

So now I'm reconstructing from backups. But after so long away from home there's a lot of other life events taking precedence.

So my wife and I went to help because every 2-4 hours day and night is a lot to ask.

Based on all signs, everyone expected this to be quick with little suffering for the young one, especially since she couldn't take in any nutrition anymore.

She'd fought for her whole life. She didn't know the meaning of giving up. So, 12 weeks later, wife and I had to come home because we couldn't take more time off to help.

Kiddo passed away the week after. 😓

For those wondering where the heck my website went, a short documentary on 2023 so far.

In early February, my young goddaugher's health rapidly declined. She's a victim of a traumatic brain injury inflicted when she was only a few months old. Suffered epilepsy for her whole life. Early Feb, she was assigned in-home hospice care. Which means, a daily short nurse visit and the family takes care of everything else - including the pain medications she needed *every 2-4 hours.*

I have now successfully spent 9 weeks of 2023 in my own region of the country. Still feels weird being home after 12-13 weeks in another...

Also, helping provide #hospice care for 12-13 weeks is tough on many levels... #Shoutout to #professionalcaregivers and others who do this forever. You are appreciated.

I know there's a lot of places with energy rates much worse than our $0.11/kWh so I can't really complain much. the fees seem like a lot though.

System is 22.08kWp, daily consumption is anywhere from 60-100kWh. Working on better consumption metering.

I figured there would be some project that already does a wireless rs485, but have been surprisingly unfruitful in searching. There do appear to be things to get the data into Mqtt, so maybe with some tinkering I can get something to work. #solaredge does support modbus over ip but I don't yet understand if that allows sending data to the inverter or just reading.

What I'd really like to replace the #smappee with is something that would nicely integrate with the #solar inverters. Unfortunately, the inverters are ~250 feet away from the import/export meter, and about the same from the house's load center. I do have an #RS485 energy monitor on order which is allegedly compatible with the inverters - I'm just not sure how best to connect the two. I've been trying to research if there's a way to wirelessly bridge rs485 with #wifi or #lora but no luck yet.

My #smappee #energy #monitor (circa 2014/2015) recently died. It kept falling off wifi, and now I can't get it to broadcast its internal hotspot at all even when the blinking lights say it should be in pairing mode.

Cracked it open, can't see anything obviously burnt or otherwise, so I'll probably send it off to recycling and look into a more modern solution. Maybe #esphome and that six-channel expandable monitor to log individual circuits?

It's Alive! Somewhat. One panel not reporting in, but looks like the power optimizer wasn't connected. Easy thing to miss in the cold. Will have to get out there when it warms up in a day or two. There's also a slight covering of snow still remaining after roof-raking the array last night. Very happy I went with ground mounting.
