But I am fairly confident the rust is coming from pitting in the plating exposing the iron in the tool beneath it

But I...It does seem like the reaction creates ONLY a black powder afterward, with none of the red/orange rust anywhere to be seen. So unless there is a reaction between the rust and air/moisture as a result of the abrasion, it would seem like this reaction is occurring. If I'm understanding correctly, it's exothermic and the heat from the abrasion friction could get the reaction started, and I really don't have any other explanation for why the byproducts of this product are black and not orange.

(and a bit of soapy water, I assume to break surface tension and lift away freed rust/byproducts). It seems to work well enough, but I want to understand the phenomena more.

It has filters and categories that allow me to restrict a search to what I actually want, but then it just.... doesn't.... 3/4 of the "feed" is always ads/dropshippers, and then the rest is just not in the location range that you set.
But unfortunately I want to buy used goods more than I want to not use shitty software.

i'd prefer to reclaim the space and remove carcinogens from the premise, so leaving it in place is not optimal
seems like wetting it and putting it in a thick garbage bag, then sending it to the landfill, would be the closest thing to carbon sequestration i can realistically achieve.
