I’ve been messing around with satellite imagery a bit for fun, you can get some really neat effects!

This is a vegetation index from three Landsat-5 & 8 images taken thirty years apart stacked into a false colour composite, and it shows where the river has moved over time.

I went on a trip to UC’s Cass Field Station for a mini bioblitz with folks from the school of biology, envirosoc, and biosoc. Our goal was to bring the Cass iNaturalist observations page to over 500 unique species, which we went well past.

The landscapes were wonderful, and we saw some amazing creatures and flora.

Went on an amazing field trip to participate in the #CityNatureChallenge with UC’s Envirosoc. We went to Kaituna Valley, Birdlings flat, Okains bay, and finally Panama rock. It was a proper adventure and we saw some incredible stuff!!

Wondering what’s what’s your opinion on tertiary institute specific instances? I.e there could be a ucanterbury.social instance where clubs, researchers, and students could post things. Are you aware of any such efforts with the unis and polytechs?

Generally, lecture attendance has been so much higher this year, in 2021 and 2022 I’d sometimes be the only person in the lecture theatre out of a course of a hundred people!

It is a bit inexplicable to me that students are paying tens of thousands to go to university and then not taking full advantage of the best resource: the world class experts who are literally paid to teach them!
