And then in his mind, you lack self-respect and were never trustworthy -- even though the problem always was his fear of intimacy.
It's a real shame.

And then in his mind, you lack self-respect and were never trustworthy...2/3 What he usually hides stays hidden and he doesn't fear feeling ashamed. It would be wonderful for him to come out and stand right there in full view, naked, and be celebrated.
You know this. And so does he. And the closer you get to him, the more afraid and abusive he becomes. He doesn't believe in your tolerance and he will force you to prove it by pushing you away in uglier and uglier ways over and over while you wait for him to trust you and to relax.
But by then it's too late.

It would be wonderful for him to come out and stand right...1/3 It really is a shame when someone doesn't appreciate tolerance; when he doesn't value being perceived and understood. But you know why that is, don't you? It's because when he's surrounded by tolerance, what he usually hides comes out and stands right there, in full view, naked. He doesn't appreciate feeling ashamed. He doesn't appreciate feeling scared that you'll hurt him.
Much more comfortable with people who push him away. Banter! Competition! Playing hard to get! Far safer.

Enjoy Samuel Taylor Coleridge's 1797 "Kubla Khan".

But I didn't know that he wasn't.
He knew that he lacked any and all confidence; that he was deliberately cruel to me so that I wouldn't excel, while I blindly believed that he'd come with me into a bright future.
Eventually I got tired of his cowardice and left.

Not because I'm a communist or a socialist, but because I cannot fucking STAND it when someone's impersonal, sterile track record is their ticket to influencing the people around them. The psychological ripple effect of a fake, ego-inflated spin doctor who wants his or her arse kissed poisons our society. I want to know WHO this person is in private before I allocate a societal role to him or her.

The outdated style glimmers with elegance. Give it a go; you'll be glad if you hang in there! Weird (and essay-worthy) to alternate between it and a paper about #Camus's constructions of #mortality in The Outsider. MAN did I miss some biiig stuff in that tiny high school #textbook when I was a teenager!

After that plus a whack of non-fiction essentially about #sociopathy - Chrisje Brants, for the curious - I'm considering a #mood booster but, or perhaps as #luck would have it, found the blue one.

P.S. TIL of the Whiplash film released in 1948! And now some of you did, too.
